Today, Microsoft's Phil Spencer revealed the official specifications for Xbox Series X. Due to launch later this year, Spencer stated “set new standards in graphical power and processing speed” which will be determined “with innovative leaps in CPU, GPU, and storage technology”.
The Xbox Series X will feature 12 teraflops as opposed to the Xbox One X's 6 teraflops. "Xbox Series X delivers a true generational leap in processing and graphics power with cutting edge techniques resulting in higher framerates, larger, more sophisticated game worlds, and an immersive experience unlike anything seen in console gaming."
Spencer stated that the Xbox Series X's Variable Rate Shading (VRS) will provide more stable frame rates and high resolution. Along with more realistic environments powered by DirectX Raytracing for true-to-life lighting, acoustics, and reflections.
The system will use SSD storage, allow for quick resume for multiple games, decrease latency between controller and console, and support 120 fps.
Xbox Series X will be backward compatible with all Xbox games.
That's a lot of promises but we'll have to wait and see if the console performs as well as Microsoft says it does. Xbox Series X is set to launch this holiday season.
