Activision Won't Be Able to Fix Destiny 2 According To Analyst

Destiny 2 falling hard

Destiny 2 had a strong launch, with many citing the game's improved campaign as one of its primary improvements. However, since then, the game has had issues with its post-launch content, and Bungie has had an even harder time communicating with its fanbase. Many players have abandoned the game, and this is shown through strong evidence of popular streamers.

Destiny 2

According to the Twitch community, Destiny 2's viewership averages 4,000 - 7,000 views, but the first Destiny averaged 14K to 17K views on a Friday afternoon. Cowen Senior Analyst Doug Creutz stated,

“While Call of Duty: WWII clearly had a great holiday, which like sets up strong franchise live services revenue in 2018, Destiny 2 is struggling right now with player engagement appearing to be on the wane.”

Further supporting his predictions, Creutz revealed four strong reasons for the current state of Destiny 2:

  1. “Design decisions were made that have made D2 a less engaging, and less distinctive, game than D1.”
  2. “Microtransaction implementation, while not nearly as problematic as in Star Wars Battlefront 2, has still been a source of player unhappiness.”
  3. “Bungie’s apparent urgency in responding to player feedback has been disappointing.”
  4. “Until recently, Bungie did a poor job communicating its road map going forward, particularly compared to the more open stance of many other live service games.”

Bungie has promised to deliver new content updates for 2018, and the next expansion is set for a Spring 2018 release. However, keep in mind many of the Destiny 2 community members are livid with how Bungie has updated the game with a lot of focus being put on the in-game store, the Eververse, Curse of Crisis, removing core content and lack of depth, and the experience throttling controversies. We've seen Bungie pull themselves out of the hole before with Destiny 1's The Taken King expansion, and perhaps they'll do it again.

Destiny 2 is now available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
