Apple Hurt Nintendo
News by Craig Bryan on Aug 03, 2009
A Nintendo representative has recently revealed that the reason for the recent slump in DS and DSi sales is, “due to harsher competition in the portable arena stemming directly from Apple devices.” In other words the iPhone, and the more recent iPhone 3GS, that allows users to capture and edit video.
The App Store, which allows users to download games onto their iPhone, iPod Touch, and Computer, has been seeing huge growth of late, and with more and more gaming companies signing up for a piece of the action sales are set to rise and rise.
What this does for future sales of Nintendo handhelds, and Sony’s upcoming PSPgo - which also allows users to directly download games via their own online store - is yet to be seen, but they certainly have a lot of catching up to do if they’re to appeal to such a mass market of casual gamers the way Apple have.
