Bethesda has shared one of its biggest development updates in years, offering a look at what you can expect from several of its major franchises. The studio confirmed that work is moving forward on Fallout 5, remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, continued support for Starfield, and the long-awaited development of The Elder Scrolls VI.
According to Bethesda, Fallout 5 has officially entered pre-production. The company described it as a long-term project that will arrive after The Elder Scrolls VI. While that means the next mainline Fallout game is still a long way off, Bethesda emphasized that the franchise remains one of its highest priorities and that multiple Fallout projects are currently in active development.

One of the biggest surprises is the confirmation that remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in development.
Bethesda didn't reveal release windows or gameplay details, but the company stated that work is underway on both projects. The announcement follows years of rumors and reports suggesting that updated versions of the two RPGs were being considered, making this the first official acknowledgment that both remasters are happening.
The studio also confirmed it is collaborating with Obsidian Entertainment on a new Fallout project. Although Bethesda stopped short of revealing exactly what the project is, the partnership is notable given Obsidian's history with the franchise, having developed Fallout: New Vegas. No release timeline or additional information was shared.
The Elder Scrolls VI also received a significant update.
Bethesda said the game is now its primary development focus, with the majority of the studio currently working on the next chapter in the series. The company acknowledged that fans have waited a long time since Skyrim launched and said development is now centered on bringing the next installment to completion.
Alongside updates on Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, Bethesda reaffirmed its commitment to Starfield. The studio said the space RPG has now surpassed 17 million players and accumulated nearly one billion hours of gameplay.
As Starfield enters its third year, Bethesda plans to continue supporting the game with new stories, targeted gameplay improvements, additional updates, and fresh Starborn content scheduled for next year. The company also showcased its Creations platform, where more than 40 percent of players customize their experience with content created by the community. Bethesda said it will continue to invest in the system to give players new content and ways to expand their adventures.
The company also showed off more details about the tech behind future releases.
Bethesda has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 are both being developed using Creation Engine 3, a shared technology platform that has been evolving since the release of Starfield. Looking ahead, the engine is expected to serve as the foundation for the studio's largest projects, enabling teams to work with common tools and systems across multiple franchises.
In its announcement, Bethesda reflected on four decades of game development, saying it has built worlds that have entertained almost half a billion players. Rather than thinking of its games as individual releases, the studio described them as living worlds that players continue to shape through exploration, creativity, and modding communities long after launch.

The update also reaffirmed Bethesda's continued support for Fallout 76. While the company didn't spend much time discussing future expansions, it confirmed that the live-service RPG will continue to receive updates alongside the development of future Fallout titles.
Although Bethesda avoided providing release dates for any of its newly announced projects, the roadmap outlines where the studio's attention is currently focused.
The Elder Scrolls VI now leads development; Fallout 5 has entered its earliest production stage; Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remasters are officially in the works; Starfield will continue to receive major updates; and Obsidian Entertainment is collaborating on another Fallout experience. For now, Bethesda's latest announcement offers a clearer picture of what you can expect over the coming years, even if most of these projects are still some distance away from release.
