Bioshock Infinite takes to the skies

Irrational Games unveiled their latest project, Bioshock Infinite (previously named Project Icarus) at a 2K press event this week. But this time, Irrational is ditching the confined underwater dystopia setting for a floating city in the sky. The game’s development is also headed by Ken Levine.

So I don’t know if you already know this, but Bioshock Infinite is not set in Rapture. The game takes place in 1912, above the floating sky city of Columbia. You play as Booker DeWitt, a former Pinkerton agent (a real-life detective agency) who is sent up to Columbia to save a woman named Elizabeth. Throughout the game, DeWitt will work with Elizabeth to escape the floating city, which is on the brink of falling to the ground below. The game's synopsis and teaser trailer can be viewed in the official website.

In a press release statement, Ken Levine said that “[Bioshock Infinite] is both true to what people love about the series and unafraid to question every assumption. Levine also mentioned they had to “rethink, rebuild, and expand the Bioshock arsenal,” ensuring fans that the “rules of Bioshock universe are about to change.”

Bioshock Infinite is coming to the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. It’s unfortunate that the earliest release window for the game is sometime in 2012, but Irrational assured us that more details about the game will be released soon. Stay tuned for more Bioshock-related news.
