CrossfireX Shutting Down On May 18th
Xbox Store sales halted effective immediately

CrossfireX, the first-person multiplayer shooter from Smilegate Entertainment, is set to shut down on May 18th. As of this date both the online multiplayer servers and single-player campaign, developed by Alan Wake creators Remedy Entertainment, will become unavailable.
The original Crossfire was released on PC in 2007 and was a smash hit in East Asia, netting Smilegate Entertainment and Chinese publisher Tencent approximately $6.8 billion as of 2015; and the game is still going strong today.
The console version of the game, CrossfireX could not have faired any differently. Launching in February 2022 to overwhelmingly negative reviews, including a 3.3 User Score on aggregate site Metacritic, the shooter was criticized for its lack of content; underwhelming gameplay; and dated multiplayer. Smilegate Entertainment continued to support the game post-launch adding “fixes, new maps, modes, and in-game events”. However, after only a year on the market, CrossfireX will be shut down as its quality was “not where it needed to be”.
The in-game store will be kept open until May 18th so players can spend their remaining in-game currency, however, Smilegate is disabling the ability to purchase any additional currency or microtransactions. Likewise, effective immediately, “all sales on the Xbox Store will be halted [and] there will be no new content added to the game”. Furthermore, “purchases made within the last 14 days as of February 3, 2023, may be eligible for a refund”.
CrossfireX will no longer be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, or PC on May 18th, 2023.
