The next State of Play from Sony will be in September 2025, and the gaming community is already buzzing louder than a DualSense controller in overdrive. Since past September showcases have brought us big hits like Ghost of Yōtei, the remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn, and a surprise Soul Reaver drop, people are very excited for another big hit.
The big question is whether it will be a parade of jaw-dropping reveals or just another snack-sized hype appetizer. The past shows that Sony is more likely to do the first thing. Their September events are usually hectic, even though they are short-lived.

This year, people who work in the industry are hinting at a mix of returning fan-favorite franchises, long-awaited new IP reveals, and a few surprises that could shake up the console wars again. From first-party giants to third-party titans, the lineup could take you on a wild ride through space, steel, and nostalgia-fueled rage.
Naughty Dog could have one of the most exciting moments. Their new IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which has been a mystery for a long time, might finally get some attention. The project is set in a sci-fi world full of bounty hunters and cosmic drama, which is a significant change from their usual emotional and grounded stories.
If Sony wants to make this game a big deal, they could put it in the spotlight with a gameplay trailer or a release window. Then there's Factions, the standalone multiplayer game that came out of The Last of Us. There have been rumors about delays, restarts, and even cancellations. But if Naughty Dog brings it back—or better yet, drops a teaser for The Last of Us Part III—the internet will probably explode.
Fans are excited to see what the studio does next, primarily since they are known for changing how story-driven games are played. Will they aim for the stars or go back to the shadows of the end of the world? After God of War: Ragnarök, a lot of people thought Santa Monica Studio would start a new sci-fi adventure.
But there are rumors that their next game isn't a new IP at all. Is it possible that there will be a spin-off with Atreus as the main character? A new version of a cult classic like The Order: 1886? Maybe Starhawk will come back as a surprise? Fans are hoping that at least one of Santa Monica's two development teams will bring something new or a nod to the past.
Even a cryptic teaser with Kratos just grunting could set off a firestorm on social media. There are a lot of rumors going around, so it's clear that Santa Monica is keeping some big secrets. Will they put them on the table this September?
After the massive success of Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games has been on a high. It's time for Wolverine to take the stage now. People have been waiting for gameplay footage since it was first teased in 2021. Sources say that this State of Play might finally give us a good look at Logan in action, complete with adamantium claws and fighting fueled by rage. A full gameplay trailer would be a big deal and steal the show right away.

Also, don't forget about possible DLC for Spider-Man 2 or hints about Insomniac's next secret project. This studio is far from done, even though they are known for their fast development cycle. Could fans get two doses of superhero content?
Rumor has it that Guerrilla Games is ready to take the Horizon series in a new direction with a live-service co-op game. Imagine you and your friends fighting giant robot dinosaurs. If they get the combat right, this could be the most fun multiplayer game of the year. Testers have been hired for online play, and since the goal is to release the game in 2025, a reveal is likely soon.
Horizon 3 might still be in the early stages of development, but a cinematic teaser is possible. Fans would start making theories and posting on Reddit if they saw Aloy facing a new threat, even if only briefly. Is it finally time for the series to be entirely multiplayer, or will single-player stories still be the primary focus?
A few PlayStation Studios have been suspiciously quiet. Since 2019's Days Gone, Bend Studio hasn't put out a game. Now would be an excellent time for them to show off what they're working on. Housemarque, the studio behind the critically acclaimed Returnal, may be working on a new arcade-action game that is sure to be a hit.
And there are once again rumors that Bluepoint Games is going to make a remake, whether it's Bloodborne, Metal Gear, or some other surprise revival. Team Asobi, which is known for its fun Astro Bot games, could also come back with a PSVR 2 game. A new Astro Bot game could be the perfect game for both families and tech fans.
The list of third-party games for Sony is constantly changing, and this year is no different. Capcom is on a roll, and Resident Evil 9 could be the best horror game of the year. Fans want more survival horror, and a new game for the next generation could give them both chills and gunfire.
Kingdom Hearts 4 could make Square Enix the star of the show. The game was first shown in 2022, but little has been said about it since. Expect fireworks if they show off a new Disney world or gameplay mechanics. Updates for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth DLC or even a Dragon Quest revival could be added to the RPG side of things. And with rumors of Parasite Eve or Chrono coming back, there's a lot of nostalgia to dig up.

Konami, on the other hand, has been slowly coming back into the picture. We might finally get a look at the gameplay of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of the classic MGS3. The most interesting rumor is that there will be a Castlevania AAA revival with a Gothic setting, whip combat, and Belmont lore.
That alone could make the event one to remember. There might also be Silent Hill projects and remasters of older games, which would show that Konami has started working with Sony again.
And last but not least, the wild card: Rockstar Games. Even a short new trailer or update for GTA VI, which has already been confirmed, could steal the show. Rockstar doesn't show up at State of Play very often, but when they do, it's usually a big deal.
Sony could have a lot of big news to share if they have so many great things in one showcase. September's State of Play might finally give us the games we've been waiting for, from mutants that slice claws to apocalyptic remakes and robot dinosaur co-op raids.
The only thing left to ask is: what moment will break the internet this time?
