Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft's head of Xbox games marketing, spoke to Engadget at Gamescom regarding the future of console gaming, including the end of consoles.

Greenberg shut down any rumors that Project Scorpio will have exclusive games outside from VR titles.

"So we're saying, if you bought games and accessories for your Xbox One, or you buy an Xbox One S, those games and those accessories are going to work on Project Scorpio."

Greenberg did state that VR games would come to Scorpio only due to the power of the system, something that the original Xbox Ones cannot handle.

The most shocking comments that came from Greenburg were regarding the eventual end of console gaming already.

"I think it is. ... For us, we think the future is without console generations; we think that the ability to build a library, a community, to be able to iterate with the hardware -- we're making a pretty big bet on that with Project Scorpio. We're basically saying, "This isn't a new generation; everything you have continues forward and it works." We think of this as a family of devices."

Greenburg did go into the ongoing competition between Sony's PS4 and Microsoft's Xbox One commenting on Sony's success but citing Microsoft's growing momentum.

What do you think, will the console generation end this time around or could we see a PS5? Perhaps we'll see a set of streaming services instead, all offering different games based on what box you purchase to stream the content.

Considering that Microsoft is porting their major games to Windows 10 it's only a matter of time before the Xbox is a thing of the past. Gears of War 4 will be the vanguard of this new system, being the first game to feature Microsoft's Xbox Play Anywhere service.
