The Saudi Arabian charity Misk, owned by Crow prince Mohammed Bin Salman, has announced that they have purchased a 33% minority share in the Japanese video game developer SNK. The deal cost them 813 million SAR which equates to about 216 million USD, and boosted the King of Fighters brand holder to a worth of 650 million USD. Misk isn’t finished with their investment, and plans to control at least 51% of the company at a later date. It is not clear how this will affect the Japanese operations or if Misk and Bin Salman want to take a hands-off approach to ownership.

This news may make SNK fans rather uneasy as Bin Salman has come under recent scrutiny. Rumors have spread that the government has some kind of link to the murder of Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi, though this has yet to be proven. The government has also be accused of human rights violations against women, foreigners, immigrants, and those that identify as LGBT. SNK is no stranger to controversy, as they have been heavily criticized the past five years for working with Chinese company Ledo Millennium.
