Nintendo has officially announced that it will appear at PAX East 2026. The selection will be based on forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2 games. But so far, there hasn't been any news of a big Nintendo Direct in March. The disclosure has gotten a lot of people in the gaming industry talking, especially fans who were hoping for a surprise this month.

Reports say that Nintendo will be at PAX East from March 26 to March 29 at the Thomas M. Menino Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston.

The company will show off a number of games that work with its next-generation hardware, giving people a chance to try out some of its newest games.

Super Mario Wonder: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is one of the featured adventures. It can be played with the new "Meet Up in Bellabel Park" content. The fact that this game is included shows that Nintendo is still pushing Mario's latest story as the best game for the new system.

There will also be a lot for Pokémon fans to do at the event.

Nintendo stated that attendees will be able to try Pokémon Pokopia, a game that has been surprisingly popular and praised by many. The sales and quality of the game have been better than expected, especially in the cozy gaming community, where it caught on quickly.

The company will also talk about Pokémon Champions, a new battle-themed game that is still mostly a secret. People who attend will be able to play the game for themselves, which will be one of the first chances to get a longer sense of how it plays.

The list is good, but its size has made many people wonder what it means for Nintendo's bigger plans.

Recently, there have been reports that a big Nintendo Direct would happen in either February or March, and that a new 3D Mario game might be shown off. But since March is almost over and there has been no news, those hopes are quickly fading.

Some people thought at first that Nintendo's attendance at PAX East could mean that they had more secret games on the way. The business thought it could use the event to help a bigger reveal cycle in a quiet way. But the confirmed lineup doesn't seem to support that idea. Instead, it's mostly made up of games that have already been revealed or will be out soon.

It's clear that Pokémon Champions is the most interesting game in the showcase.

Unlike the other featured games, it hasn't gotten a lot of gameplay press yet, which makes its appearance at PAX East even more important. Early views show that it will focus a lot on competitive battles, and it could turn into a live-service experience similar to the long-running Pokémon competitive scene.

It's also likely that the game will work with Pokémon Home, making it an even better place for players to gather and battle with their collections over time. This direction fits with bigger brand trends that stress staying connected and involved for a long time.

The lack of a March Nintendo Direct has also brought up questions about how true recent leaks and source claims are. Some people had said before that a big presentation was going to happen soon, but it hasn't happened yet. Because of this, people in the community are less likely to believe some stories.

At the same time, new rumors say that April is a more likely time for Nintendo to hold its next big event.

Several sources say that the company might be changing its usual presentation plan for the Switch 2 era, but this hasn't been confirmed yet. It wouldn't be too shocking if things changed in this way. Both first-party and third-party studios are taking longer to make games, so Nintendo may be changing its approach to better match when projects are ready to be shown. Instead of the more common early-year and June reveals, big Direct presentations could happen in April and September, for example.

But for now, nothing is set in stone. Nintendo might still hold a presentation later in the spring, or it might decide to wait until the summer to make its next set of statements.

When PAX East 2026 comes around, most people will be thinking about Pokémon Champions and any new information that comes out of hands-on demos. Fans may not have gotten the big surprises they were looking for, but the event did give us a better look at Nintendo's near future and a hint at how the company is handling the switch to the Switch 2 generation.
