Rumored PlayStation State of Play Faces Uncertainty as Assassin’s Creed and Xbox Events Crowd the Same Day

With Assassin’s Creed, Xbox, and PlayStation all circling the same date, you’re left trying to piece together what actually shows up.

You are looking at one of those weeks where everything seems to be happening at once, and none of it feels fully locked in. The rumored PlayStation State of Play keeps coming up again, but now it’s mixed in with a wave of other reports that make the whole situation feel crowded and a bit messy. As you try to make sense of it, the biggest thing you notice is how many events are supposedly lining up on the exact same day.

The latest talk suggests that Assassin’s Creed is doing its own thing entirely, separate from both PlayStation and Xbox. That immediately takes it out of the State of Play conversation. At the same time, Metro is now being linked to a smaller Xbox event expected this Thursday.

If all of that turns out to be accurate, then you are potentially looking at three separate beats hitting at once: a PlayStation State of Play, an Xbox showcase, and an Assassin’s Creed reveal, all stacked on top of each other. It feels excessive, and honestly, it doesn’t make much sense for everything to land on a random Thursday in April.

Once you remove Assassin’s Creed and Metro from the equation, you are left trying to figure out what PlayStation would even show.

That leads you straight into the bigger debate: is this rumored State of Play focused entirely on third-party games, or does it still leave room for something first-party? Some insiders have leaned heavily toward it being a third-party-only showcase, which would rule out major first-party appearances like God of War or Wolverine.

Still, the situation isn’t that simple. You have heard recent chatter about God of War potentially being revealed sooner rather than later. There was mention of a possible April announcement, which puts it right in line with this rumored event.

At the same time, you can’t ignore earlier comments suggesting that the next God of War project might not be shown until later in the summer. That creates a gap between what different sources are saying, and you start to wonder if timelines are shifting or if information is being intentionally spread in different directions.

That leaves you with multiple possibilities.

PlayStation could reveal something now, hold it for June, or push it all the way to a later showcase closer to the end of summer. With multiple rumored State of Play events still floating around for the coming months, you are essentially trying to guess which event gets which reveal.

Wolverine adds another layer to that uncertainty. You have likely noticed how much more active it has been on social media lately. That kind of activity usually means something is building, but it doesn’t tell you exactly when. It could be gearing up for a late May or early June appearance, or it could show up sooner if this State of Play actually happens. The timing is tight either way, and without a clear lead-in, it’s hard to be confident about where it fits.

Even if the event leans heavily on third-party content, you can still imagine PlayStation closing things out with one first-party moment. That kind of structure has happened before, and it would give the show a stronger finish. But then you face another decision: if you pick one, do you choose God of War or Wolverine?

It feels unlikely that either would carry an entire showcase right now, especially if a larger, more focused event is already planned for later in the year.

Once you move past the big names, you start thinking about everything else that could fill out the show. You look at games that already have ties to PlayStation, even if they are not exclusive. Titles like 007 and Lego Batman come to mind, especially since they are both expected around late May. That timing makes them easy candidates for another appearance, even if it’s just to remind you they’re close.

Then there’s Saros, which is right around the corner. It’s close enough that you probably don’t need to see more of it, but you can still imagine it showing up again for one last push before release. A launch trailer or a short reminder wouldn’t be surprising, especially if PlayStation wants to keep its lineup visible.

Looking further ahead, the options get thinner.

Most of the big summer names are tied to other platforms, so they wouldn’t fit here. That pushes you into fall territory, where games without release dates become more relevant. Control is one example that stands out, mainly because of how often it has been associated with PlayStation channels. If the show wants to include something further out, that kind of title could easily take that spot, possibly even with a release window attached.

Beyond that, you already know there will be surprises. There are always a few games that haven’t been leaked, along with smaller indie projects or even something unexpected like a VR title. You can’t predict everything, and at this point, you’re mostly trying to map out the bigger picture rather than every single detail.

The biggest question, though, is whether the State of Play happens at all. The Xbox event and the Assassin’s Creed reveal feel much more certain right now. In comparison, the PlayStation showcase has always sounded less locked in.

When you step back and look at everything, it almost feels more likely that the week plays out without it.

You could end up seeing just the Xbox event and Assassin’s Creed taking the spotlight, with PlayStation waiting for another week or skipping straight to a later showcase in May or June. That scenario would honestly make more sense than cramming everything into one day. For now, you are left watching how it unfolds, knowing that the next few days will either confirm the chaos or clear it up entirely.
