Sakura Wars Mobile Will Shutdown
The costly mobile game will end service in June 2021.

Sega has announced the closure of its mobile game, Sakura Revolutions. Starting on April 22, the purchase of in-game currency “Spiricle Crystals” was halted. On June 30 the service will completely end and refund application will open up. Sakura Revolutions is a notable blow to Sega, who launched the game only six months ago. Sega poured in over three billion yen (around 30 million USD) on the project, and only recouped around 74 million yen (approximately 700,000 USD) monthly. It also failed to reach even the top 100 game apps by revenue on either iOS or Android.

While Sakura Wars has been a cult classic franchise in Japan, its exposure in the west has been incredibly stagnate. It took nearly five years for Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love to be translated (2005 release date in Japan, 2010 in North America). The notoriety of Sakura Wars (2019) was mostly underwhelming with a lack of push from Sega of America.
