Sony is starting a new program to bring PlayStation games to mobile called ForwardWorks.

"ForwardWorks will leverage the intellectual property of the numerous PlayStation® dedicated software titles and its gaming characters as well as the knowledge and know-how of gaming development expertise which was acquired over the years with PlayStation® business to provide gaming application optimized for smart devices including smartphones* to users in Japan and Asia."

Nintendo has recently joined the mobile network with Miimoto and now with Super Mario Run. Looks like Sony is following the same path.

After the Vita's absence from E3 2016 and the NYC conference it seems outside from Japan Sony isn't investing into their handheld console. Looks like Vita Island is going to die.

Perhaps this will turn out better than the PSP Go or make people purchase Sony mobile games instead of emulating them.
