1C Company and Cultic Games have announced that Stygian: Reign Of The Old Ones, "a roleplaying game of horror, loss, and madness set in the strange worlds of HP Lovecraft.", will be making its way to PC, Mac and Linux in 2019. Featuring a hand-drawn 2D artstyle, the title will take players from Arkham to the rather ominous sounding Abyss. 8 character archetypes will determine the player character's backstory and abilities. They will also not have to face the horrors on their own, being able to recruit companions along the way including "the lonely, antediluvian 'Outsider', a fallen soldier of the Great War reanimated by Herbert West,[and] a psychic (and narcissistic) cat from Ulthar.".
As with anything lovecraftian, sanity won't be quite at home in Stygian: Reign Of The Old Ones. A character's mental state will influence their dialogue options, while the game's Belief system will determine how well they cope with the surrounding horror and the rate at which sanity regenerates. When talking won't help anymore, turn-based combat, likened to that in the Heroes Of Might And Magic series, will take center stage. Players will be able to use both physical and magical means of dispatching their foes. The title already has a Steam page up which is where you'll also find an early demo to take for a spin.
