The CEO of Bethesda's sister company Zenimax has sadly died aged 73.

Altman co-founded Zenimax in 1999 with Bethesda founder Christopher Weaver. Weaver would leave the company in 2002 leaving Altman to take over as CEO.

In commemoration of Altman, Bethesda Tweeted this:

"We are deeply saddened to tell you of the passing of Robert A. Altman, our Founder and CEO. He was a true visionary, friend, and believer in the spirit of people and the power of what they could accomplish together. He was an extraordinary leader, and an even better human being."

Following their statement, Bethesda also posted one of the emails he'd send out each week during the pandemic.

Bethesda also brought attention to a piece Altman's son, James, had written following his father's untimely death.

He closed his address speaking on the recent Microsoft acquisition:

"Closing our deal with Microsoft will be a bittersweet moment for all of us. But I take comfort in knowing that our Company is and will be in the capable hands of Robert’s friends. And I know that we will continue to honor his legacy by making the world’s greatest games for our fans."

Bethesda design director Emil Pagliarulo also commented on Altman's passing:

"If you love our games, it's because of Robert's love for what we did, and his trust in our dreams."
