In Aliens: Fireteam Elite, you play as a Colonial Marine, humanity's best when it comes to alien threats.

Not every marine has the same role and abilities, so this beginner's guide focuses on the Doc and explains its role, strengths, and mechanics so you can use it effectively in combat.

When it comes to the Doc, the role is all about support, healing, and being defensive. The Doc can buff allies, heal them, and keep them in the fight for longer. The class has a few unusual mechanics, which are covered below.

Weapon Archetypes

The weapon archetypes available to the Doc include Rifles, which provide decent mid- and long-range firepower, and a Handgun.

Handguns are serviceable for close-quarters encounters but are not actual close-combat weapons, making close engagements risky for the Doc if allies are not available to provide protection.

Abilities — General

Every class has access to three abilities: two kit abilities and one kit perk. For the Doc, the first kit ability is the Trauma Station.

Trauma Station

When activated, the Trauma Station is placed on the ground and displays an area of effect ring. When the Doc or nearby allies enter this ring, they are healed over time.

The Trauma Station has a limited supply: a bar next to the deployed Trauma Station depletes as it heals allies.

Replenishing the Trauma Station

The Trauma Station is replenished by picking up Med Packs. When a Med Pack is collected, it also replenishes the Trauma Station.

If a team includes a Doc, it is advised to leave any First Aid Kits found around the map for the Doc, allowing the Doc to recharge the Trauma Station.

When the Trauma Station is empty and a group encounters an area containing First Aid Kits, leave the First Aid Kits for the Doc; the Doc will then heal allies using the kits one after another, which in turn refills the Trauma Station.

This method of using First Aid Kits to recharge the Trauma Station is likely the most optimal approach.

The Trauma Station can also be manually picked up after it has healed enough allies so that it can be carried forward.

Combat Stims

The Doc's other kit ability is Combat Stims. When activated, the Doc buffs nearby allies and self, increasing accuracy and stability by 50 percent, increasing stamina regeneration by 30 percent, and increasing movement speed by 15 percent.

This ability is a strong all-around combat buff that enhances overall team performance.

Kit Perk — Field Medic

The kit perk for the Doc is Field Medic. For each nearby ally, ability recharge speeds are increased by 15 percent. Field Medic also explains the mechanism by which the Trauma Station is recharged when First Aid Kits or Med Packs are picked up.

Specialization and Builds

Perks and build choices let you customize and improve your abilities and playstyles. These choices are gone over in more detail in detailed builds and in-depth guides, but the basics given here are enough to get you started with understanding the Doc.

Pros and Cons

The two primary advantages of the Doc are the ability to heal allies, keeping them in the fight longer, and the ability to buff allies to improve performance.

The major drawback is relatively low damage output: the Doc's abilities do not significantly increase damage potential, and its weapon options can be lacking, especially in close-quarters combat if allies are not available to cover.
