In ANNO: Mutationem, when you get to the last meeting, you have to face Nidhogg, a dragon that rules multiple elements and leads the field with wide-ranging attacks. At this point, you know how the game’s fighting systems work. This fight is a test of your ability to read patterns, manage space, and stay calm.
This guide goes over Nidhogg's moves and how to respond to them. It also explains how to carefully and steadily approach each part of the fight.

Understanding Nidhogg’s Combat Style
Nidhogg uses fire, lightning, ice, and physical attacks to pressure you from every angle. He alternates between close-range strikes and long-range projectiles, often forcing you to reposition. A lot of his moves take time to start up, which lets you have time to respond if you stay focused. As the fight goes on, he adds flight and arena control to his moveset, but the main idea is still the same: look for the tell, dodge at the right time, and hit him during recovery moments.
Nidhogg’s Attacks and How to Handle Them
Dragon Flame
When Nidhogg shoots a vertical spark that spreads along the ground, do not run away; instead, move toward him. As you get closer, start your attack. Then, when the fire moves across the floor, jump over it. If you stay relaxed, this move will give you a clear chance.
Fireball
For the straight fireball, Nidhogg pulls back before firing. The projectile travels fast, so you should already be airborne before it leaves his mouth. Positioning yourself behind his head also avoids the attack entirely.
Stomp Attacks
Nidhogg strikes the ground with his front legs. You can parry these if you are confident, but it is just as effective to move behind him and attack while he recovers.
Tail Whip
Before using this move, Nidhogg crouches briefly. Roll past the tail as soon as you see the crouch. If you are far away, be ready to dodge forward since the attack creates a short-range projectile.
Tail Spin
This is a fast, full-body spin that covers a wide area. Later in the fight, Nidhogg may teleport behind you and use this immediately. When that happens, jump and use an air dash as soon as you see him reappear.
Wing Flap
While hovering, Nidhogg flaps his wings to push you backward. This does not deal damage, but it sets you up for a follow-up fireball. Run toward him during the push to reduce the distance and disrupt his setup.

Air Drop
Nidhogg disappears and drops from above. A red circle marks the impact zone. Move out of the circle as soon as it appears and keep moving until he lands.
Lightning Strike
Lightning bolts target marked circles on the ground. Watch the floor instead of Nidhogg during this attack and stay clear of the indicators.
Freeze Attack
During the final phase, Nidhogg flies over you and freezes you in place. You cannot avoid the freeze, but it does not cause damage. Break free quickly and dodge, as he will land where you were frozen. Each landing leaves a glowing blue spot that freezes you on contact. Since this sequence repeats, return to the same spot each time to stack the frozen zones and keep the rest of the arena clear.
Boss Strategy by Phases
At the start of the fight, Nidhogg alternates between stomp attacks, tail spins, and fireballs. Use stomp attacks as chances to move behind him and deal damage. Watch closely for the tail spin and jump when you see the windup. When he uses his wing flap, push forward instead of backing away so you are not caught by a fireball.
As his shield weakens, Nidhogg begins calling down lightning. Focus on positioning and avoid the marked areas. Once the shield breaks, you enter the second phase.
In the second phase, Nidhogg starts teleporting. He often appears behind you and uses a tail spin, so respond by jumping and air dashing immediately. He also teleports into the air for slam attacks, which are always marked on the ground. Keep your movement controlled and avoid rolling too early.

Once his strength goes below 50%, the freeze move is used every so often. Even though the freeze can't be avoided, the follow-up slam is easy to see coming. When Nidhogg is done with the process, he stops for a moment, which is your chance to attack.
From this point onward, no new attacks are introduced. Maintain awareness of fireballs, lightning zones, tail spins, and slam indicators. When his health drops further, activating your transformation ability can shorten the remaining fight.
Practical Tips for the Fight
You can use as many healing things as you want, since this is the last fight. If you did the extra tasks, your HP and defense should be fully improved. This means you can survive mistakes without being too stressed.
It's helpful, but not necessary, to enter the fight with a change meter that is almost full. You don't have to parry here; most of Nidhogg's moves are easier to dodge and adjust for than to parry, even though they can be stomped.
