One of the hardest things in ANNO: Mutationem is to protect Sigrid from C's soldiers. You have to protect Sigrid's Shield while beating a lot of tough enemies, because it doesn't heal between stages.

This task is a real test of how well you can use resources, position, and time, since there are many enemies, constant pressure, and very little room for mistakes. If you get ready for the fight and make a plan for each part of it, you can keep things from getting out of hand and make it through.

Preparation

This is one of the few battles where preparation matters. Before entering the fight, make sure your Transformation Gauge is almost full. Ideally, it should be around three-quarters charged so you can finish filling it during the early moments of combat. If you have already cleared the research base, enemies near the area before the Absalom fight will respawn and can be used to charge the gauge.

Stock your inventory carefully. You should carry Burgers, multiple bottles of Erythropoietin, and several FM HE Grenades. Having a few 654-2 consumables is also useful if you expect to take heavy damage. If possible, upgrade your Transformation Skill at least twice. While not mandatory, this upgrade makes the final phase far more manageable.

Battle Overview

The battle has three parts, and each one has several waves of enemies. During the whole fight, your main goal is to keep Sigrid's Shield safe. Most foes will focus straight on the shield, but some, like ninjas, will focus on you first. Since the shield doesn't heal itself between stages, it's important to take as little damage as possible at the start.

Between phases, you will face patterns of falling knives. These sections are more about movement than combat. Keep an eye on your health, heal when needed, and stay focused so you do not fail after clearing a full phase.

Use your Pistol to deal with flying enemies and rely on parries to remove shields from melee units quickly. Parrying is not optional if you want to keep the fight under control. At the start of each phase, drink a bottle of Erythropoietin to increase your damage for sixty seconds, which is usually enough time to clear each phase efficiently. Heal whenever necessary and pause the game to use items instead of fumbling during combat.

Phase 1

Use Erythropoietin right away at the start of the fight. In this part, there are normal troops with knives and drones that fly. Enemies will appear from different sides of the fence in turns. First, there will be four guards on the right, then two on the left. Soon, six drones that move slowly will start to head toward the shield. If these drones get to it, they will blow up.

After clearing the soldiers on the left, you will have a short window to eat a Burger, which boosts pistol damage, and shoot down the drones. If a few drones survive, keep track of their distance from the shield while dealing with the next wave. Three more soldiers will then attack from the right, followed by two from the left.

When all of the enemies are gone, knives will fall in rows. Stand in the holes so nothing gets broken. Dash through the knives when they start to fall more quickly. Even if you are hit, the damage is small and should not slow you down.

Phase 2

Start the second step with a different erythropoietin. Ninja enemies are introduced in this phase. The first ninja to attack will come from the right. You can control these foes by making sure they notice you. Hit the ninja to get its attention, then block its hits to break the shield. You can quickly finish it once the target is stunned.

After the first ninja falls, two more will appear, one on each side of the barrier. Around this time, several hovering sentry ships will spawn above the dome. Your goal is to draw the attention of both ninja units by attacking each briefly. This reduces the number of attacks hitting the shield. After that, eat a Burger, jump, and shoot the hovering ships with your pistol until they are destroyed. Then return to the ground and defeat the ninja one at a time.

At the end of this phase, there are knife walls on both sides of the field. Before shooting, they take a short break. Roll through them so they don't hurt you. Do not stand where the knives first show. If you do, you can be hit many times at once and lose very quickly.

Phase 3

Use Erythropoietin again at the start of the final phase. Heavily armored soldiers enter the battlefield, including baton-wielding units on both sides and a gun-wielding heavy on the right. Focus on the heavy soldier on the right first. Parry his attacks to remove his shield and deal damage quickly.

During this fight, small sentry robots will begin rushing toward the barrier. This is the moment to activate your Transformation. Use it to wipe out the sentry robots and eliminate the soldiers on the right side. With a fully upgraded transformation, you should clear them efficiently.

Shift your attention to the heavy on the left while staying alert. More sentry robots will eventually rush in from that side. Prioritize them before they reach the shield. Shortly after, a group of slow-moving drones, similar to those in Phase 1, will appear and move toward the barrier. Keep fighting the big fighter, but keep a close eye on the drones. If they get too close, eat a Burger and shoot them down with your pistol, or jump and strike them with your great sword.

Once the heavy troops and drones are out of the way, you will face one last wave of knives. Don't worry, stay on the move, and dodge when you need to. The fight is over once you survive this episode.

Plan B – If Sigrid’s Shield Breaks

You still have a chance to get back on your feet if the shield is about to fall apart. Get your FM HE grenades ready and wait until the shield is almost out. When it breaks, throw bombs at enemies who are close to you and use physical weapons to stop them. This gives the shield enough time to recover.

You only need to survive for a few seconds. Use every grenade you have if necessary. If you succeed, the shield will fully restore, making the rest of the fight far more manageable.

Tips

Burgers are optional, but they significantly speed up the removal of flying enemies. Drawing the attention of ninja units in Phase 2 is essential for preserving the shield’s durability for Phase 3. A broken shield does not always mean failure, as freezing enemies can allow it to recover. If needed, position yourself to absorb bullets, since you can heal but Sigrid and her shield cannot. Drinking 654-2 during the fight can also help if you are taking sustained damage.
