Chapter 25

Hope in the Chaos

Brona woke up in the middle of the night and turned to Sarwar. He was sitting on the edge of the bed, head in his hands, muttering to himself.  She wrapped her arms around him and kissed his neck softly, gliding her hand along his back, trying to relax him. He had come home that afternoon with Nicole and Alessandra. They all looked rather grim, but even Sarwar wasn’t himself. She didn’t have the heart to ask her husband what had happened up there, but just by looking, she knew very well that it wasn’t something that she wanted to hear.

“My love, I know you’re troubled. But is there anything I could do to make you sleep better?”

“Brona my darling, if you could undo the events of today and grant us Ricardo once more, I’d be more than happy. But, know that if I want to cry, I’ve someone close to my heart that will be there for me. I love you Brona, more than anything. Each time the sunrises, I look in awe, at how much more beautiful you are then it. As the stars in the sky shine, I am more attracted to the stars in your eyes. Your essence, your prefect, surpasses all those in my life, and for you to be my wife I find that I am the luckiest man in this world. Brona just your touch, your love, your sweet gentle smile, sends my heart in to a frenzy of passion. Thank you… For being there…”

She leaned up to her husband, and kissed him gently. She could feel tears rolling down his cheeks as she kissed him. It was all too real the pain he felt. Whatever happened today was not going to be easily forgotten. She knew that she would have to be there for him, every chance she could.

The sun cracked the window and Brona looked over to see her husband still asleep. It was a rare occasion for this to happen, so she found it best to take advantage of it. She stood up and closed the curtains, giving him more sleep. She dressed in her simple gown, and walked out of the room. It was near breakfast time and already she could smell the sweet cinnamon bread being baked. She followed her nose, leading her all around the castle, something she loved to do. Until she came across a section she wasn’t familiar with. The doors were large and had a large R carved in the center of it. Normally she would have admired it and moved on, but what bothered her was a faint sobbing sound that was coming from beyond the door.

Gently she pushed the door open, and almost as if known, an arrow flew past her and hit the far wall. Across the room, sitting on the bed, was a figure of a girl, with a bow drawn and ready with another arrow.

“GO AWAY, I WANT TO BE ALONE”

That voice she could never forget. It was Nicole’s voice, only it sounded much more raspy and full of disperse. Slowly she walked closer in to the room. Watching Nicole incase she tried to fire again. It was dark in the room, very dark, so it came to mind that she most likely couldn’t see who she was.

“Get out… or I’ll kill you.”

“Honey… please, are you all right? It’s me Brona.”

“Prove it…”

Brona paused for a moment. How could she prove who she was in the dark? It wasn’t simply her turning a torch on or anything like that. It seemed hard. So she started to do what she always did when she was scared. She sang.

“Now now you cry so long,
Tear of then forever gone.
Do not weep another drop,

You have my heart, without a doubt.

Watch the steams and magic things,
no one knows the truth of these.
Love is pure in every one.

You have my heart, without a doubt.

Sleep now lass, it’s time to rest,
heal, be safe, we want the best,
come back to us, pure as before.

You have my heart, without a doubt.”

Brona watched the Nicole’s shadow drop the bow and come running at her. The young girl, a spitting image of her father, cried as she ran to her. It was rare to see her cry, but she looked dehydrated from crying. As if she never stopped. Brona caught her in her arms and held on tight as the crying intensified. Nicole started to scream in to h Brona’s shoulder as she cried. Never before as she seen Nicole this upset. Together they walk to the bed and sit down. The bed was covered in dust other than were Nicole had been.

“Nicole dear, where are we?”

“Were in my late father’s bedroom, I came here to see if I could maybe, feel some type of connection to him.”

“Oh, sweetie, your father is connected to you right now. I mean you wear his sword.”

“I can’t get it off. I want to be rid of this damn thing. It killed Bri and Cole today.”

“I’m so sorry… but don’t you know what is inside that sword?”

“It’s just a hunk of murderous steel.”

“It’s also what’s left of your father…”

“Brona don’t speak in riddles… Mother’s lost her mind… and uncle Sarwar is depressed. No one is making sense.”

“Maybe… I could clear things for you. Your mother mentioned talking to your father, she was right, it’s possible. She was right to go to his remains to show you. That blade, it feels like a part of you doesn’t it?”

“Yes it does. It was worried about that…”

“Well your gift is the same as your fathers. You have as much power as he did, and that’s important because… that hunk of murderous steel actually has your father’s soul in it. Don’t freak out and let me explain. Your Father wasn’t an idiot, he knew very well that everything he did had a chance to kill him. It was obvious, so he feared what would happened if he died. As a failsafe in case he died, he had a part of himself put in to that sword. The sword is your Father, and with it you can bring him back.”

“Really? How I’ll do it as soon as I can. What do I need to do?”

“You need to kill with it. Each time you kill someone with it, part of them enters the sword so as to help recreate your father. It was done once before, by your mother accidently. Talson, the capital of your lands, was under siege and your mother fought he way out with it. Doing so allowed the blade to recreate His body.”

“What had happened to him before?”

“You father had what was known as ‘living’ armor. It was able to move on its own and later it’s shape. It’s hard to understand but he had found it. He thought he had tamed and learned to control it, but one day it had jump off that balcony over there. The drop killed him, but no body was ever found. That’s because it was taken to that sword.  Your mother recreated him.”

“Can we do it again?”

“Yes, but it’s impossible to cast immortality, so it can only be done once every ten years by someone with a deep desire for his return. No person can do it more than once.”

“So mother can’t do it again?”

“But you can. When Bri and Cole died… what happened to their bodies?”

“They disappeared in a shining light. In to the sword, so the sword is reviving him itself?”

“No. Who was touching the sword at the time?”

“It was pierced through Cole and Bri. I was touching to hilt.”

“Then it’s was you recreating him. With your mother, each kill just died, the body fell, but that was because her gift was weak. It was enough for her to revive him, but it wasn’t at a cost. She had to kill a very large amount of people to do so. Your gift is very similar to his. Meaning it will take many fewer lives to revive him. You can bring your father back.”

“It won’t be worth it if I have to kill people to do it. Brona it’s a dream come true. But I’m not sure I can do it. I can’t take lives, it’s not in me.”

“Liar… You’re just like your father. You don’t want to kill people, but just a moment ago you threatened to kill me. Why? Because I threat to something you love. You are your father’s daughter. Your mind says no but your actions are ruled by passion. If given a reason you’ll fight, you’d kill. Honey, your blood is that of the strongest person in the lands. Don’t resist it and embrace its purity.”

“Brona. How do you know so much about my father and this blade?”

Brona smiled as she stood up from the bed and reach in to the pocket of her gown. She pulled out a small leather bound book that has the same R that was carved on the door on to its cover, she opened it and walked over to the balcony to get some light so as to read it.

“Within this book are the secrets to my houses power. It explains how our gift works, how we see this world and explains in detail what each of my abilities can do, and what others can do. I update this book as often as I can, but should you be reading this, then it’s clear I’m no longer around. To the one reading this, keep it safe, and when ready, give it to those of my blood so they may know the truth of me, and there blood.”

“Where the hell did you get that book?”

“Your Father gave it to me last time he was here in Celestial.”

Brona tossed the book over to Nicole and walked away slowly. Upon reaching the door she looked back to see Nicole walking over to her father’s desk, where she opens the window and begins to read the book.  He tears stopped and her fear gone.

“I don’t want you to cry again Nicole…”
