An effective farming operation in Enshrouded relies on understanding soil types, seedling production, efficient layout designs, and optimal settings. This guide gives you a complete picture of how to grow plants.
It is divided into clear sections that cover everything, from preparing the soil to more advanced farming methods. All of the words for items, NPCs, tasks, and bosses are capitalized and in bold to make them easy to find.
Growers who follow these suggestions will maximize their crops' growth, facilitate easier harvesting, and ensure they always have sufficient supplies for food, medicine, and animals.

Farming and Soil
Planting begins with choosing among Free Soil, Farm Soil, Enriched Farm Soil, or Shroud Soil. All seedlings can be placed on natural terrain without any amendments, but growth rates vary significantly.
Farm Soil speeds up growth compared to bare ground. Enriched Farm Soil matures the fastest and is best for resources that are in high demand. At the moment, Shroud Soil can only be used by the Tentacle Plant. However, future patches may add more uses for it.
Seedlings deposited in Enriched Farm Soil often complete their growth cycle in the time it takes to return from a brief exploration, making it the preferred medium for dedicated farms.
Free Soil
Raw Free Soil can be harvested directly from abandoned cultivations scattered around the world. By mining existing farm plots with a pickaxe, enough Farm Soil is obtained to establish new plots.
Beginners who lack crafting tools or the necessary materials for soil improvements can get started quickly with this method.
Unlimited Soil
Once a small stock of Farm Soil and Enriched Farm Soil is secured, infinite production becomes possible. Excavated plots can be raked to refill with fresh Farm Soil, and the resulting soil can be stored for future use.
By dedicating a compact extraction pit and keeping Farm Soil, Enriched Farm Soil, and Shroud Soil on hand—alongside supplemental materials such as sand—players ensure uninterrupted farm expansion.

Seedling Production
Seedling creation requires combining harvested produce with water at the Farmer station and placing a crop—such as Corn—into the input slot alongside sufficient water to yield Corn Seedlings.
Multiple wells, preferably Enhanced Wells, should be placed near farming zones to maintain a steady water supply, as each well depletes after three uses. Certain plants demand specialized inputs: Fertilized Farm Soil for Gentian or Fossilized Bone Dust (ground from Fossilized Rock in the Grinder) for other rare seedlings.
Planter Design
A clean, modular layout uses refined wood blocks to form raised planter beds. Borders may sit flush with walkways or be elevated for visual distinction.
Planters in the shape of uniform cubes make it easier to plant, pick, and water. Each bed can be made the right size for a particular crop, which saves room and makes maintenance easy.
Farm Organization
Organizing crops into dedicated beds simplifies resource management. For staple ingredients—Saffron, Flax, Wheat, Sugar Cane—each planter hosts a single crop, with harvested goods deposited into Magic Crates adjacent to the planting area.
This setup allows rapid replanting and prevents the mixing of seeds. As storage demands grow, dedicating one chest per planter signals when reserves are full or require replenishment.
Hybrid Farming

A hybrid approach clusters crops by end-use. One zone focuses on potion components, linking Berry and Mushroom beds to an Alchemist station for Small Mana Potions and Small Health Potions.
Another section grows feed ingredients—Corn, Yucca Fruit, and Berries—for Yak Food and Goat Food, crafted by the Farmer. This method makes it easier to make food and food for animals without having to spread resources out in different places.
Compact Farming
Space optimization emerges once plants reach maturity. Mature beds allow replanting in the root zone of existing crops, effectively doubling planting density.
By waiting until full growth and then adding seedlings adjacent to mature stalks, cultivators can maximize yield per plot without expanding their footprint.
Unlimited Seeds
Activating double-loot settings returns twice the number of seeds when harvesting. For example, harvesting Saffron seedlings under these settings yields six or more seeds from a single plant, rapidly boosting seed stocks.
This technique is beneficial for rare or resource-intensive crops.
Quick Farming Settings
Changing how files are saved can make farming chores go much faster. If you change the Plant Growth Speed, it will mature faster, and if you raise the Loot Amount, you can gather twice as much food.
The speed of Workshop Production and Mining Setting the damage level lowers the wait time even further for crafting and collecting resources. Though these changes don't affect regular gaming, they are a quick way to try out different layouts and yields.

Improvements Needed
Current mechanics still require manual interaction for each seedling and each harvest, leading to repetitive inputs. Bulk-planting or bulk-harvesting functions would significantly reduce tedium. Five units of water can still only be collected per well, so trips to refill are often needed.
In the future, improvements could include rain collectors or automatic irrigation systems. Adding more Shroud Soil uses and automating sugar processes through special crafting stations would also make late-game growing more efficient.
