Favorite Touhou Fights: The End

Games by FetusZero on  May 28, 2010

Welcome to the true finale of my Trilogy blog depicting my favorite boss fights in the Touhou universe! Yes! It is truly the final part, or "Part 3" if you so desire. It makes me sad though, as while I do get to show my favorite character within the realm of flying girls and magic bullets, I consider this part to be rather weak compared to my previous ones. Main reason being that I have already explored the majority of the games and that this blog is dedicated to showing you guys and girls my most recent acquisition within the franchise: Double Spoiler (or the 12.5th Touhou Project).

12.5th Touhou Project ~ Double Spoiler

Double Spoiler marks the 17th official title for the Touhou Project, but more precisely the 5th side-project of the franchise. If you want to be even more specific, it is the 2nd Bunkachou game, in which you are required to take photographs of certain bosses all while avoiding their attacks. Some of you may remember my blog displaying a video of Shoot the Bullet (9.5th), which is the formal 1st Bunkachou game. There isn't much to be said about the game other needing to take photographs of the bosses. On the left (and sometimes right) side of the screen, you will have small pins indicating the number of photos required in order to beat the scene. The more bullets, the more risks, the clearer the photo and the biggest the concentration of colors is all work together in order to achieve a maximum number of points.

What better to describe than an actual video though? This time around, instead of including only one scene, I decided to include the entirety of the 3rd level, which is seperated into 8 different scenes. This makes it my longest video for the Touhou Project, but also provides a bit more variety as to what you can expect from the game. Here it goes for you people:

With Double Spoiler out of the way, it is now time to reveal my favorite character of the entire franchise. Nope, it isn't a favorite boss, she's only my favorite character, that's all :]

First of all, she comes from the 6th Project, commonly known as The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. She is the final boss of the game and strangely enough, she is also the owner ofthe Scarlet Devil Mansion. Red Eyes, short light-blue hair, black bat wings on her back and fearsome magical powers and a reputation to match, she is known throughout Gensyoko as the "Scarlet Devil", as implied by the name of the game in which she appears as the final boss. She, however, does not look all that evil, dressed with a beautiful pink dress and mob cap, including a red ribbon in her back. In fact, she is quite cute, the cutest there is in my opinion.

As with all vampires, she is photosensitive and weakened when exposed to light, thus she decided to release a mist throughout Gensyoko in order to block the sunlight, allowing her to move freely during the day and giving the moon a Scarlet tint. As the rumors goes, she was named the Scarlet Devil because she usually would spill her victim's blood on her white clothes, thus giving her clothes a pink color, though her victims rarely die after she has fed due to her light appetite. She is also one of the few characters whose birthdate is approximatively known, which would make her over 500 years old. Who is she?

Remilia Scarlet

Remilia is my ultimate favorite character in the entire Touhou franchise. Why exactly is she? Well.. she is most powerful, she is playful yet to be feared, to me she acts like a small princess and oddly enough, while I hate people with the whole "princess" attitude, it attracts me (my ex-girlfriends could probably tell you how I often and oddly treat them as such). In other words, she's just really cute for a 500 years old girl. I like the way her clothes look too and while they aren't the most impressive within the realm of Gensyoko, they, for some reason, caught my eyes. She is also the first final boss I have ever battled in Touhou, which isn't a big surprise considering it also was the first game I had acquired from the series, but a first encounter often remains the most memorable one. Whichever reasons may hide behind, what better can you get than a vampire girl with glowing red eyes, who can create mass destruction in the blink of an eye yet is cheerful, playful and only wants to wander around during the day?

For such, I have prepared a special video (even with a custom introduction) showcasing my ability to destroy this little princess-like devil. While my run was far from perfect, it's probably the best one I have ever done. Sleven, remember asking me if the videos were sped up during the stage parts? I sure remember telling you to keep an eye out on this one. Sakuya Izayoi, the mid-boss of the final stage, has some ridiculously fast attacks. On video they look a bit slower than what I see when actually playing, but that might be due to the low resolution of the game played in fullscreen. Nonetheless, you will see that during Sakuya's second attack, the time allowed to think and move isn't so big, thus making for fast decisions.

With all of this said, please enjoy as I am being confronted to the almighty yet cute Scarlet Devil herself: Remilia Scarlet.

Well, this is it. The final blog from the "Favorite Touhou Fights Trilogy". This does not mean that I'll stop making videos from the series though, as that would be literally impossible for me considering it is one of my favorite franchise out there. It does mean, however, that I won't be posting videos from Touhou anytime soon again as instead, I'll try to get some footage from other games.

I hope you have enjoyed this little walk within my favorite fights and hopefully, you didn't regret reading this much text. I just can't stop adding more and more once I'm started :]
