If you play Ultimate Team or career mode on FC 26, you’ll have heard the word ‘Meta’ a lot. Creating the best formations and tactics for Ultimate Team and career mode also comes down to personal preferences, but there are particular strategies across the community.
Winning in Ultimate Team is not about having expensive players. The biggest difference between elite average players is understanding the formations and tactics, and how to adapt during the match. The right setup can make your team faster, defend better, and create more goal-scoring chances.
Best Formations for FC 26 Ultimate Team
4-2-3-1 (Wide): According to the best Ultimate Team players, this is the best formation. Also, this is the safest option for beginners and experienced players, the two defenders hold back while the attacking midfielder puts everything in link together.

With four at the back, this is the best option, as it prevents leaving open wide spaces for your opponent to exploit. Also, two defensive midfielders in the double pivot are key. They provide defensive cover and prevent counterattacks while your team's attacking side makes the offensive play.
4-3-3 (Any Variation): If you like to use wingers and create one-on-one situations, this formation is an excellent option as it provides offense from both flanks via wingers and provides excellent midfield control.

This formation utilizes two wingers who hug the touchline and stretch the opponent's defensive line, and also fullbacks providing assists on offensive play. Playing three midfielders enables your team to control the game tempo and monitor possession, while also providing support in both offensive and defensive play. Defensively, it relies on a solid back four to maintain structure.
Best Tactics for FC 26 Ultimate Team
Custom tactics determine how your team behaves with or without the ball. Even small adjustments Even small adjustment can completely change how your team performs
Defensive Approach: Balanced (60)
A balanced defensive approach is the most reliable option in every match. The custom 60 setting for defensive approach is the highest your defensive line can be without taking any unnecessary risk. This limits your opponent's space in the midfield.
Also, you can use ‘High Press’ if you are chasing goals, and if you are protecting the lead in a game, you can use ‘Deep Defensive Block’.
Build-up Style: Balanced
A balanced Build-up play is the safest option for every team. This won't allow your midfield to be exposed during build-up and maintain structural integrity, unlike Fast build-up, which leaves your midfield exposed. If you like to play a controlled possession game, you can use ‘Slow Build-up'.

Player Roles
Midfielder: Assign at least one Deep-lying Playmaker or Holding Midfielder for a safe passing option, and a Playmaker for creating chances.
Wingers: Set wingers to Inside Forward. This makes sure they cut inside to create space for fullbacks to overlap.
Striker: For strikers, use an Advanced Forward role to keep opponents' defenders pinned to create space for the final pass.
Defender: Keep it simple and default to the instruction for defending, with your defenders staying back to hold the defense line.
This will allow you to link up and tear up your opponent's defense without exposing yourself to counterattacks.
Start with a balanced setup and learn how each tactical setting changes your team's movement. As you gain experience, you will discover which formations and tactics feel more natural and become more consistent with Ultimate Team.
