Making progress in this world requires a solid grasp of how the economy works. You need to manage your money and your standing with local groups to keep your gear up to date.

Season Cycles and Progress

This game works on seasons that last about 90 days. When a new season starts, your progress resets. This means your vault gets emptied and your level goes back to zero. Your progress with different groups also resets.

The only things you get to keep forever are your cosmetic items. The first season is known as Death Is The First Step. Most of your work will involve six main groups in Marathon.

These are CyberAcme, NuCaloric, Traxus, MIDA, Arachne, and Sekiguchi. You begin with CyberAcme and open up the others by finishing early Contracts. Each group has its own list of jobs, an upgrade tree, and a shop where you can buy weapons and gear.

Money and Materials

Everything you do runs on Credits. You earn these by making a successful Extraction and selling the loot you find. You use Credits to buy new equipment. You can also find Enhanced Salvage to trade at shops.

There is a special currency called Silk, but it is only for looks. You cannot buy anything that changes how the game plays with real money in Marathon.

If you run out of Credits, do not worry. The armory will give you free Sponsored Kits every day. These include a basic weapon, ammo, healing items, and a Shield Kit. This ensures you can always get back into a match even after a few bad runs.
