With official support for Nvidia GeForce Now on the Quest browser, cloud gaming on the Meta Quest has achieved a new level. This upgrade gets rid of the requirement for side-loading or other workarounds, giving you a smooth and powerful way to play games right through the headset.

Getting Started with GeForce Now on Quest

Getting started is simple. All you need is a stable 5GHz Wi-Fi connection for smooth streaming, with a minimum of 15 megabits per second for HD resolutions and up to 35 megabits per second for QHD resolutions. Ensure your Meta Quest is running build 72 or later, as this is required for the feature to work.

Once your setup is ready, open the Meta Quest browser, visit play.geforcenow.com, and log in to your account. From there, you're ready to stream and play.

Performance and Visual Quality

Out of the box, GeForce Now on Quest streams games at 60 fps (Full HD) at 1920x1080. If you want to get even better performance, you can manually turn on 2560x1440 (QHD) mode from the streaming options, as long as your connection can handle it.

The graphics are fantastic. The details are precise, the colors are bright, and the gameplay is smooth, which makes for an experience that feels almost like it's native. We recommend remaining in the same room as your router to cut down on lag and obtain the best results. Things can get even better with a Wi-Fi 6E router. It works very well with the Quest 3, and I definitely suggest it.

Controller Compatibility and Controls

For the best gaming experience, a supported Bluetooth gamepad is required. Currently, GeForce Now works seamlessly with Microsoft Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S controllers. Once connected, the gamepad takes over for most gameplay functions.

Suppose your VR controllers go out of range. In that case, the Quest automatically switches to gaze cursor mode, allowing you to control the interface using head movements. You can also toggle this mode manually by pressing the Start and Select buttons on your gamepad simultaneously.

Testing Popular Games

We tested several titles to see how well GeForce Now performs on Quest. The graphics were amazing, starting with Tunic. The vivid colors really stood out on the Quest 3's screen. It's a hard game, but it's great for cloud gaming because it responds so smoothly.

Next, we played Streets of Rage 4, which is a popular game in arcades. The game ran flawlessly, with no noticeable latency during gameplay—ideal for classic-style titles where quick reflexes are key.

Things got more competitive with Street Fighter 6. While the performance remained stable, we recommend sticking to casual or friendly matches rather than competitive play due to potential input delay in online scenarios.

Lastly, Cuphead, which is known for being hard and precise, ran great. We could do quick, precise movements with minimal to no lag. We can't stress enough how important it is to have a robust Wi-Fi connection for these kinds of games to work well.

Final Thoughts

We tried out a lot of games on the Meta Quest, and they all worked perfectly. These included the colorful world of Tunic, the classic action of Streets of Rage 4, and the hard challenge of Cuphead. It feels freeing to be able to play without a gaming PC or console. We can log in, connect a gamepad, and start playing right now using GeForce Now.

This update marks a major win for Meta Quest users. Nvidia GeForce Now provides access to an extensive game library, offering streaming up to Full HD or QHD resolutions, which deliver visuals and performance that feel almost too good to be true.
