Minecraft Guide | How to Make Beacons

Minecraft is an amazing game where players can express themselves in almost any way they want to, while also enjoying a game of survival where anything can happen.

No matter how many times you play the game, there will be a different story unfolding with each playthrough, and that is one of the many beautiful things about Minecraft.

As a creative sandbox game, it allows players to create their own base in almost any way they want, providing areas to store goods, craft items for their journeys, and farm crops and animals. There are so many things to do and learn within the game.

When you create an amazing base for all the things you need, you obviously want to be able to find your way back to it after a long adventure traveling far away.

Sometimes, it is hard to always find your way back, especially if you don't have a spawn point and aren't willing to die, or also don't have the extra position numbers. This is where beacons really come in handy to help you find your way back home. 

How To Make A Beacon in Minecraft & What They Do

First things first, you will need to craft the beacon itself, which can be done using four pieces of glass, a Nether Star, and three Obsidian blocks.

When at the crafting table, you will need to put the Nether Star in the middle, the glass at the top around it, and the Obsidian blocks at the bottom, and that will craft the beacon. This is only the first step, though.

To activate the beacon, it requires a base, also known as a Pyramid. There are only a few blocks that the beacon will accept as its pyramidal base being made out of. You have the following options to choose from: Iron, Gold, Diamond, Nethernite, or Emerald.

It is also possible to use a mixture of these blocks if you don't have enough of them while playing in survival or just want a funky pattern. 

Next, it is all about the size of the Pyramid, as this is important in determining what you will get out of its effects. The base for the beacon needs to be made from either a single row to four rows high, but the higher it is, the better. With its four blocks of height, it increases the range of how far the effects work. 

To make the four-tiered Pyramid, you will just need to start with a 9x9 square. As you work inward to a pyramid shape, you will have a 7x7 grid, then a 5x5 grid, until you end with a 3x3 grid.

Once the Pyramid is complete and the top is filled in, the beacon can be placed on top, and it will activate by shooting a bright light into the sky.

From there, you can click on the beacon to open a menu that provides more information about it and its effects, one of which includes increased speed. That is everything to know about beacons in Minecraft.
