Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection has two blunt weapons. One is the Hammer and the second is the Hunting Horn. It is different from other weapons because it focuses on making your allies stronger with buffs and your enemies weaker with debuffs.

It is a complex choice that rewards tactical play. Every Hunting Horn comes with its own unique set of skills and two Innate Melodies.

Playing Melodies and the Music Staff

You need to add certain notes to your music staff before you can use your Innate Melodies. You get these notes by using different kinds of attacks in fight. You get a red note for a Power attack, a blue note for a Speed attack, and a green note for a Technical attack.

If you win a Head-to-Head or perform a Double Attack, you earn a Rainbow Note, which acts as all three colors at once. Once you have the right notes, you use the Magnificent Trio skill to play your song.

Tactical Buffs and Ailment Immunity

The effects of these melodies in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection are very strong and can change the course of a fight. Some songs add elemental damage or status effects to the basic attacks of your entire team.

Others can restore Hearts, boost your Wyvern Fell damage, or increase your elemental resistance. Beyond the Innate Melodies, this weapon has skills for healing, boosting attack and defense, or increasing evasion.

Overcoming Damage Resistances

The Hunting Horn is so useful that it is often worth using even if an enemy is not weak to blunt damage. The power of the songs can outweigh the need for a damage type advantage.

For example, giving your party Ailment Immunity can make a difficult boss fight much easier to handle. If there is a stat in the game, a Hunting Horn exists that can probably change it.
