A guide to the roles in Painkiller.

Ink: Stagger Specialist
Your role as Ink is to focus on Elite Demons and build their Stagger Gauge. You should prioritize precision weapons.
Your loadout should include the Revolver, ideally with the Volt Weaver alternate fire, and the Stake Gun for high single-target damage.
For Tarot Cards, you should look for Synaptic Embrace to increase your sticky projectile damage, Weak Point to capitalize on staggers, and Momentum to reward your evasive movement.
Void: Crowd Control
As Void, your primary job is to control the horde. You must group and disable lesser demons so your team can clear them. You should use weapons with area-denial alternate fires.
The Stake Gun with the Maelstrom upgrade is essential for pulling enemies into a pile. You can pair this with the SMG using the Cryoshot upgrade to freeze them in place.
Your Tarot Cards should enhance these abilities. Permafrost makes your freeze effects last longer, and Elemental Purity helps you apply your control effects more rapidly.

Sol: Team Support
Your role as Sol is to ensure team survivability. You are the support specialist, focused on healing and defense. Your weapon loadout is flexible, but you should have a defensive option, like the Shotgun with the Freezer alternate fire, to protect yourself and your allies.
Your Tarot Card build is key. You must equip Guardian Angel to reduce damage you take near teammates and Shared Fate to heal your partner when you grab a Health Flask. Thirst is also useful, as it gives you a chance to spawn extra Health Orbs from Painkiller Shredder kills.

Roch: Horde Clear
As Roch, your job is to deal massive area-of-effect damage. You are the 'Nuker' who clears the hordes that Void groups up. Your loadout must be explosive. You should always take the Rocket Launcher for maximum AoE damage.
You can pair this with a Shotgun for any enemies that get too close. Your Tarot Cards focus on maximizing this damage. Generous Malice increases the blast radius of your rockets, and Aftershock causes your explosions to leave damaging traps on the ground.

You can also take Second Wind for extra survivability, as you will often be in the middle of the fight.
