Palia Guide | Best Mining Tips & Tricks
Master essential Palia mining tips to find more ore, nab rare Starstones, and earn steady gold after the Elderwood update.
Game Guide by Ornstein on Nov 11, 2025
Start fast. Unlock and upgrade your Pick as soon as you can, learn the new spawn rules (especially in Elderwood), and plan simple loops in Kilima Valley and Bahari Bay. Use the Mining Guild for core recipes, carry Repair Kits, and activate an Ore Compass when you hunt rare nodes or Starstones.
Preparation
You begin with the Makeshift Pick. It never breaks and mines Stone, Flint, and Copper Ore. As soon as you craft any upgraded Pick, tools gain durability and can break; repair at Sifuu’s Blacksmith in Kilima Village or place a Repair Station on your plot to fix tools with Repair Kits.
Build both Basic Smelter and Heavy Smelter so you can refine into Stone Brick, Ceramic, Copper Bar, Silver Bar, Iron Bar, Gold Bar, Palium Bar, Platinum Bar, and Whitestone Slab as your Mining level rises.
Keep Smoke Bombs on hand; Clay (needed for bomb recipes) only appears in Kilima Valley, largely around Fisherman’s Lagoon and Remembrance Beach.

Pickaxe Upgrades
Buy Pick recipes from Hodari at the Mining Guild as you level Mining.
The Standard Pick recipe unlocks at Mining 3 and costs gold. Craft it with Sapwood Plank and Copper Bar using your Makeshift Pick. The Standard Pick lets you mine Iron Ore and is also required to break Silver Ore and Gold Ore nodes.
The Fine Pick recipe unlocks at Mining 6. Craft it with Heartwood Plank and Iron Bar. It swings faster and grants access to tougher nodes.
The Exquisite Pick recipe unlocks at Mining 9 and costs more gold plus higher-tier materials. With it, you comfortably farm Palium Ore and Platinum Ore in Elderwood. If an upgraded Pick fully breaks, it downgrades step-by-step until you’re back to the Makeshift Pick; repair before that happens.
Where to Mine in Kilima Valley
Mine Stone, Copper Ore, Silver Ore, and Clay here. Silver Ore now spawns as its own node (not just a rare drop from Copper Ore) after the Elderwood update. A simple loop starts at your plot gate, checks the cliff base near the entrance, then sweeps clockwise along the southern paths.
Circle Fisherman’s Lagoon for Clay and Copper Ore, and comb the Remembrance coastline for more Clay. While mining in Kilima Valley, a Proudhorned Stag Beetle can burst from nodes; catch it to chase the rare Proudhorned Beetle Plush drop.
Where to Mine in Bahari Bay

Mine Stone, Iron Ore, and Gold Ore here. Before patch 0.191, Palium Ore appeared in Bahari Bay; now Palium Ore is Elderwood-exclusive. Work the southern cliffs and ridges where Iron Ore and Gold Ore cluster, then loop back as respawns start. T
he Pavel Mines can have Iron Ore and Gold Ore, but spawns aren’t guaranteed and navigation can be confusing early on. When breaking nodes in Bahari Bay, a Scintillating Centipede may pop out; catching it rewards Silk Thread, a valuable material that sells well or plugs into various crafts.
Where to Mine in Elderwood
Elderwood spreads nodes widely across the map, so there are fewer dense “farm walls.” Expect Palium Ore, Platinum Ore, and Whitestone here. Whitestone nodes look pale gray and yield both Whitestone and Stone, and Whitestone refines into Whitestone Slab.
Check caves—Red Blossom Cave and Lilac Cavern—for decent clusters, and roam between fast-travel points such as Mitana Grove and Mauvais Way. The terrain is intricate, so simple loops beat long, fixed circuits.
Starstones and Values
Any node can drop Starstones in non-starred and Star Quality versions (the starred versions place as décor). Sell prices differ by rarity. Quartz (from Clay and Copper Ore) sells for 150 non-starred / 225 starred. Garnet (from Iron Ore and Gold Ore) sells for 180 / 270.
Aquamarine (from Iron Ore and Gold Ore) sells for 525 / 787. Citrine (from Clay, Whitestone, and Stone) sells for 210 / 315. Onyx (from Copper Ore and Silver Ore) sells for 400 / 600. Emerald (from Copper Ore and Silver Ore) sells for 650 / 975.
Jasper (from Stone and Whitestone) sells for 550 / 825. Sapphire (from Iron Ore and Gold Ore) sells for 850 / 1,275. Amethyst (primarily from Palium Ore) sells for 1,500 / 2,250. Ruby (from Palium Ore) sells for 3,500 / 5,250.
Platinum Ore nodes can also yield Amethyst and Ruby. Keep a few Starstones for gifts; several villagers love them.

Mining Guild Store and Recipes
Talk to Hodari at the Mining Guild to unlock core Mining recipes as you level. Buy the Basic Smelter, Heavy Smelter, Repair Station, and each bar recipe with gold once you meet the Mining level requirements. Placing a Repair Station on your plot saves trips to Sifuu’s Blacksmith or the stables repair spots.
The store also sells unique décor for Mining medals: the Miner’s Plank wall piece, Furnace Parts Wallpaper, Miner’s Anvil pedestal, and the large Miner’s Curio Case. There is a 2,000 cap per guild medal type; spend regularly so you don’t waste rewards.
Ore Compass (Palia Mining Tips)
The Ore Compass is a consumable tracker. Buy the Ore Compass recipe for 2,500 gold from the Mining Guild, or buy a crafted compass for 50 Mining medals. Activating an Ore Compass grants a 15-minute tracking window with a pick icon and distance indicator on your compass.
It guides you to large Iron Ore, Copper Ore, and Palium Ore nodes and to Gold Ore, Silver Ore, and Platinum Ore nodes of all sizes. After the Elderwood update, large Stone also appears on the Ore Compass, which adds noise when you’re strictly hunting rare ores. Use it when you need a quick stock-up or to chase Starstones efficiently.
Accomplishments and Weeklies
In the Accomplishments tab you’ll find permanent goals for Mining plus weekly challenges that unlock at Mining 10. Weeklies reset on Monday and award up to 100 Mining medals total: Pickaxe Pro (mine 20 nodes) grants 40 medals, Gold Rush (mine 10 rare ores) grants 30 medals, and Party Prospector (mine 5 nodes with others) grants 30 medals.
You also earn Renown from permanent goals, including a bundle for discovering every type of Starstone and another for smelting each ore.
Co-op Etiquette and Shared Nodes

Modern Palia keeps nodes “alive” for three minutes after the first hit. They glow more intensely as they near despawn, giving others time to tag them and earn loot.
Mining together speeds breaks and adds a chance for double loot, which also applies to Starstones. Call out big spawns, keep moving so nodes respawn for the map, and everyone benefits.
Profits and Routing
Selling everything from a focused Mining run—ore, bars, Starstones, and surprise bug drops like Silk Thread—makes solid gold, especially if you prefer solo play. In Kilima Valley, fold Clay into your loop so you can keep crafting Smoke Bombs.
In Bahari Bay, clear Stone and Iron Ore to encourage Gold Ore respawns as you circle cliffs and ridges. In Elderwood, expect longer walks between nodes; use fast-travel boards and the Ore Compass to stitch together short, efficient paths between Whitestone, Palium Ore, and Platinum Ore sightings.
