With the undeniable growth of the FIFA series, Konami has been chasing the competition since Pro Evolution Soccer’s debut in the seventh generation consoles. The franchise that once dominated the genre during the golden age of the PlayStation 2 loses fans each year. To reduce the adverse score, Konami made a series of radical changes in the gameplay of PES 2011. Now, the new PES 2012 follows the same trend and promises to refine the ideas presented in the previous title. During the pre-E3 event organized by Konami, Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka, executive director of the series, presented the new features of Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 and highlighted the improvements in artificial intelligence, engine impact and behavior of the ball.

In PES 2012 the AI system promises to redefine how players behave on the field, recreating real tactical movements and organizations within the game. This time the player AI will not be running at random, or worse, unexpectedly moving in the direction of the ball. The new AI will seek the best places in the field - whether in defense or attack. So when an athlete is on the attack he is always moving in search of a loophole in the markup. While the defense will try to mark the opposing attackers up close, searching out for passes and attacks. Thus, it is not difficult to see a player going unchecked behind the defense and asking for a pass, or checking out a move diagonally from one attacker, the defender moving and opening a path to a side or midfielder.

This structure will provide a much more fluid and natural gameplay experience. Moreover, these innovations also apply to the defender’s behaviour, which begins to follow the tactical concepts selected by you more closely. Organizing your defense is as important as offense. The players are aware of the distance between them, organizing them in accordance with their curfews and make the cover of their teammates. Moreover, they also act independently to close any defensible spaces, blocking incoming attackers.

Another interesting development is the engine of impacts. In Pro Evolution Soccer 2012, the game will be much more physical than in previous editions, i.e. the strength of each athlete is an important attribute to define who will win the ball at the bitter split. The "body game" takes on new importance and, depending on the size of the players involved, will result in more vigorous falls and bumps. The animations are also more realistic, making battles even more personal. Regarding animations, the game will also feature more elaborate graphics. As a result you will find players more expressive players, natural lighting effects and new camera angles.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 also expands the total control concept introduced in the previous edition. This time the goal is to make easier to the players, allowing you to choose the player you want in a faster way. Thus, the new system will allow players to exchange directly through the right analog stick - as in FIFA. This new system will facilitate the control both in defensive situations and as offensive opportunities. In addition, the personal configuration options also allow you to adjust the "Support for Passes." By personalizing the item for passes, players can look forward to a greater or lesser intervention in passes execution - that will determine strength, speed and response of the receiver.

Besides all the improvements, Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 will also bring some returns, as the official license of UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europe League and the Copa Libertadores. Scheduled for fall 2011, the title will be released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, PlayStation 2 and PSP.
