Rumors of a PSN 'Premium' Version to be revealed at E3

I have been catching an earshot of this for a while now, and it looks like it's about to come true; Sony is actually planning to install a paid subscription in their Playstation Network - or so the rumor goes.

The story originated from VG247's blog archives. Sony will most likely make the official announcement at E3 this year. A portion of their conference will focus on a paid [premium] subscription version of PSN, in which gamers will gain access to a streaming music application and a free game per month, among other things. These features will potentially cost "less than £50 per year" ($70), according to the source.

The idea of a premium option for PSN actually came from a survey Sony put out about a year ago, and a huge percentage were supposedly in favor of it. They can't back out now, can they?

What do you think? Is this a productive move for Sony? In my opinion, I think it definitely is. It's probably a good opportunity to gain back losses from a recent body blow to their game division. I mean, $890 million is definitely not something you should ignore. Plus, the price seems reasonable enough, so it's hard to complain.

Although I'm getting closer and closer to getting a PS3 for myself (possibly two weeks from now), I'm not planning to get the premium version anytime soon - if the rumor is actually proven legitimate. I guess we'll have to wait and see on June 15 when E3 comes around. I'm definitely excited for that.

Thanks to Kotaku for the information, by the way.
