The Orphanage is a multi-level facility divided into three key zones — The Dorms, The Classrooms, and The Chapel. During the Cleanse the Orphans mission, you will begin in The Dorms, continue through The Classrooms, and finally reach The Chapel.

The structure is filled with narrow halls, locked rooms, and shifting mechanics that you will need to understand to progress efficiently.

Layout of the Orphanage

The upper floor of the Orphanage houses The Dorms, a maze-like area of corridors and dark rooms. Here, you will encounter large shutters that open and close automatically whenever the mannequins moving along floor rails pass nearby.

These shutters can provide either protection or danger. You can use them to block Mother Gooseberry from entering a room, but they can also close at the wrong moment and trap you with her.

The lower floor contains The Classrooms, an area made up of small rooms and hallways where you will need to move heavy Film Reels between locations.

The Church, also known as The Chapel, sits outside the main building and is connected through underground tunnels. These passages have multiple crawlspaces and tight turns that can be used to evade pursuers.

Objectives Overview

The Orphanage map is structured across five stages. The first stage features the main mission, followed by two MK Challenges, and two additional stages that act as advanced versions of the main mission.

This guide focuses on the primary mission, Cleanse the Orphans, along with the key tasks involved.

Main Mission — Cleanse the Orphans

The Cleanse the Orphans mission begins with you and your team of Reagents entering the Orphanage to locate and purify the Miscreants found within The Church. Your first objective is to ascend to The Dorms on the second floor.

Once everyone has arrived, you will encounter the Radio Receiver puzzle. This mechanism becomes a recurring element throughout the Orphanage, so it is important to understand how it works early on.

Each Radio Terminal features three dials labeled Amplitude, Frequency, and Phase.

  • Amplitude adjusts the height of the signal loops.
  • Frequency modifies the length of the signal waves.
  • Phase aligns the two signals together.

You must fine-tune the signals until both align perfectly. The first Radio Receiver serves as a safe introduction to the mechanic, allowing you to test and understand the controls before dealing with threats.

After successfully tuning the first receiver, your objective will expand to include multiple receivers throughout The Dorms.

Mother Gooseberry and Daddy will begin patrolling the area, and you may also encounter Grunts, Pouncers, Pushers, Imposters, and Screamers. The shutters in this area remain an important environmental mechanic — use them strategically to either block Gooseberry or escape pursuit.

Once all Radio Receivers are properly calibrated, proceed downstairs and activate the morning announcement at the Reception Desk. This unlocks access to The Classrooms on the lower floor, where the next objective involves replacing Film Reels.

Swapping the Film Reels

Your task is to locate Film Reels scattered throughout The Classrooms and deliver them to rooms containing active Film Projectors. However, when carrying a Film Reel, approaching a classroom door will automatically close it, preventing direct entry.

To transport the reels, make use of the wall Tube System spread around the area. Find the Tube linked to the classroom you want to reach, insert the Film Reel into it, then move to the other end of the Tube.

Press the button next to it to rotate the shutter and access the Film Reel on the opposite side. Place it in the Projector to play the Religious Curriculum and complete this stage of the mission.

Calling for Prayers

After installing all the Film Reels, return to the Reception Desk and activate the button to open the path leading to The Church. Upon entering, a crucified man will be brought above the altar.

Your objective is to power the Generator in the basement and unlock the saw mechanism beneath him.

Check the two Lock Boxes beside the man and identify the symbols on each. You will need to locate the Keys that correspond to these symbols.

Search the bodies of dead nuns scattered throughout the area — the matching symbol on their painted corpse will indicate which key you can collect. Use the Keys to unlock both Lock Boxes.

Activating the Generator

Head down to the basement where you will find the Generator. This area may be guarded by a Grunt, so move carefully.

To activate the Generator, complete three smaller interactions: the Button Mini-Games on both sides, refilling it with Gasoline, and finishing the Chord Mini-Game. Once all steps are completed, the Generator will power on.

Return to the altar and operate the Saw, pushing it back and forth to complete the required action. Once finished, regroup with your entire team inside the Church. Interact with the Podium on the left-hand side to initiate the cleansing event.

As the sprinklers release blood from the ceiling, the ritual concludes, and the trial will be considered complete. You can then make your way to the shuttle and exit the area.
