The Outlast Trials Guide | How to Play Invasion
A guide on how to play Invasion in The Outlast Trials.

In Invasion Mode, you step into a new role within The Outlast Trials—no longer the hunted, but the hunter. After surviving as a Reagent, you are invited by the Murkoff Corporation to experience the other side of the experiment.

This mode allows you to play as an Imposter, entering ongoing Trials to eliminate other Reagents under Murkoff’s supervision. The mode introduces a mix of observation, tracking, and direct confrontation that alters how you engage with the world of the Trials.
Accessing Invasion Mode
To begin, access Invasion Mode through the terminal located in the Sleep Room. From there, you must choose your side—either remain a Reagent or take on the role of an Imposter. Imposters are released into Trials in limited numbers and for a restricted duration, ensuring that each invasion is brief but impactful.

Observation Phase
As an Imposter, you will initially monitor the Trial through the surveillance system. During this period, you can observe Reagents’ actions and movements while awaiting deployment.
Use the security cameras to follow their progress, identify opportunities, and ping targets to coordinate with other Imposters. This stage allows you to gather information and prepare your strategy before entering the Trial.
Entering the Trial
When your turn arrives, you will take on the disguise of a Reagent and enter the Trial via an Insertion Gate. Your primary weapon is a knife, the essential tool for your task. Once inside, your objective is simple—locate and eliminate your targets before your allotted time expires.

Tracking Reagents
As an Imposter, you possess a unique synesthetic sense that reveals disturbances made by Reagents. Any sound, movement, or environmental disruption highlights their location, allowing you to close in efficiently. Use this ability to detect activity across the map and determine when to engage.
Combat and Attacks
Your knife provides two primary forms of attack. A Slash is a fast strike that inflicts moderate damage but requires multiple hits to incapacitate a Reagent. A Stab, on the other hand, delivers an instant kill but demands a charged buildup, leaving you exposed during preparation.
Timing and positioning are key when attempting a stab, as it is riskier to execute but highly effective when successful.

Execution
Once a Reagent is downed, you have the option to finish them with an Execution. This ensures their permanent removal from the Trial. Executions are the most decisive way to fulfill your objective and contribute to your evaluation.
Survival as an Imposter
While Imposters gain resistance to certain threats within the Trial, they are not entirely secure. You remain susceptible to damage from the Experimental Population and Prime Assets, who can still harm you if encountered. Being aware of your surroundings is very important for survival.
Time Constraints and Penalties
Murkoff limits the duration of each Imposter’s deployment. Once the signal is given, you must return to the Insertion Gate within the designated time frame. Failure to comply results in execution by electrocution.

If you are killed as an Imposter, a cooldown period is imposed before you can re-enter the Trial.
Performance Evaluation
Your performance as an Imposter is assessed based on survival time and the number of Reagents you wound or eliminate. The Murkoff Corporation rewards efficiency and compliance, making it essential to perform well to maintain favorable evaluation scores.
Role Summary
In Invasion Mode, you transition from the hunted to the hunter. You observe, stalk, and strike with precision. Each decision affects how Murkoff views your capability within the Trials. As an Imposter, your role is clear—watch, track, and eliminate.
