Why are games so short?

Games by RedWolf37 on  Aug 12, 2011

Back in the old days of the NES, SNES, SEGA Genisis, Playstation, N64, PS2, Gamecube, and even the very first Xbox, games used to be a very long and enjoyable expeirence.  Now in todays world you're lucky to get a 10 hour campeign followed by multiplayer.  It might be the followiing reasons though.

The cost to dovelope a game has skyrocketed by a mile, in todays age you gotta have really good graphics. Plus japanese gameing has really taken a hit.  And to boot 60$ is way too much money. Well okay more than 2 reasons.  But it seems the only thing i see on store shelves today is an overflowing of shooters all together.  I'm not blaming that one bit, well sort of.  But if you look at the cost to dovelope a game, things have gotten real pricey. Everyone keeps begging square-enix to re-do Final Fantasy VII.  Even me! But if you look'm at the cost of doing an 80 hour story all over again, thats when the poo hits the fan! (trying to keep it pg-13)  The costs of shadowing, voice acting, better graphics and makeing a real long story is crazy. Between lkittle details like glitching arms, legs, or even eye movement.  Sure you got everything layed out on the table, but with recent spin offs in the final fantasy vii universe, changes need to be made vs, the game that came out 13 years ago. It was so much cheaper with the graphics, and useing text only vs. voice acting.  And you could use circles for your shadows.

I would like to think games like street fighter and marvel vs capcom fair well in todays age, but not so much. Is it the old school fans that keep it alive or are we drawing a younger audiance?  I DON'T see 12 year old children rushing to the arcades anymore to play sega, or the local arcade, but instead rushing home to the Xbox live or PSN to play a shooter of some sorts. Which brings me to another question. Is the internet destroying things or makeing it better?  Sure you can do everything online now but at the same time its destroying jobs. Before technology came to rise, things seem to be a little better.  the gameing, economy, and quality of games. Todays day in age ithe quanity, not quality.
