Selecting the Best Graphics Card

The central component of this system is the MSI GeForce RTX 5090 32G Suprim Liquid SOC, which features a 360-degree radiator that produces remarkable thermals and operates almost silently when configured as an intake. Its metal finish and compact PCB, reminiscent of earlier Founders' Editions, make it ideal for a vertical mount setup. 

The GPU package includes a yellow-tipped power adapter cable; the yellow tips provide an immediate visual cue when the connector is fully seated, enhancing safety. Although the cable length is sufficient to tuck neatly behind the GPU, I would like to see a more extended adapter in the next generation, combining polymerized tips with the yellow safety indicator.

Motherboard: MSI Godlike E-ATX

The MSI Godlike E-ATX motherboard has remarkable features. It can support up to four PCIe Gen5 M.2 SSDs and two additional Gen4 slots for a total of six storage devices, including two native PCIe Gen5 M.2 SSDs and two more with an accompanying extension card. 

Several USB-C and USB-A ports, Wi-Fi, 10Gb networking, and 5Gb Ethernet are all available on the rear I/O panel, which is tastefully hidden behind a stylish cover. In addition to improving appearance, this design makes cable management easier and does away with the need for completely reversible "project zero" cases without compromising neatness.

CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D

The 8-core Ryzen 7 9800X3D remains the fastest gaming CPU available on the market despite rising anticipation for the upcoming Ryzen 9 9950X3D. Although it may bottleneck under some titles at extreme settings, its 3D V-Cache architecture performs exceptionally well in high-FPS circumstances.

Storage: Giving Speed and Capacity First Priority

We decided to use a 1TB PCIe Gen4 SSD in this configuration. While Gen5 drives are emerging, Gen4 still saturates most game load times, reducing any real-world difference to milliseconds. For a system of this caliber, I recommend prioritizing capacity—such as upgrading to a 4TB Gen4 SSD—over marginal speed increases unless you have a specific requirement for faster sequential reads.

Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum

The X870 platform fully supports Corsair's Dominator Platinum RAM modules, which have maximum speeds of 7,800MHz. To avoid the higher expense of 64GB and to provide the system with more headroom than the standard 32GB found in gaming PCs, we equipped it with 48GB. 

In addition to being useful, the memory's diamond-cut heatsinks enable bespoke 3D-printed tops for a more individualized appearance.

Cooling Techniques and Visual Aspects

It was difficult to decide between expensive AIOs and an air cooler. The dual AIO tubing threatened to clog the build despite the fact that ID-Cooling's Golden Edition fans complemented the black-and-gold motif flawlessly. I decided to replace the factory fans with gold-accented, non-RGB ones while keeping the GPU's Supreme Liquid solution. 

By positioning the radiator to minimize visible tubing and tucking hoses beneath the PSU cable, I achieved a cleaner look. However, fitting two 360 rads in this case proved impractical; a larger chassis would allow for push-pull configurations.

Selecting a Dual-Chamber V1 chassis

With a dual-chamber design that conceals the PSU and cables behind a panel and displays the primary components through a clear side, the V1 chassis blends the best design features of well-known brands. 

The detachable SSD mounts speed up installation, while the wood-front inserts provide warmth. Although it does not support reversed motherboard orientation, the airflow and build experience justify the modest price tag.

Assembly and Cable Management

During assembly, careful alignment of the E-ATX motherboard was necessary to avoid front-panel overhang. The radiator was mounted at the front with two 120mm intake fans; additional fans at the top collided with cable routing. To install the GPU, the power wire had to be positioned below the cooler hoses, thereby concealing both. 

With its braided wires, the AI1600T PCIe Gen5 power supply provided enough watts for upcoming SLI configurations and AI applications. The main chamber seemed clutter-free thanks to the careful placement of cable tie points.

BIOS Setup and Initial Boot

The system turned on without any issues once all AIO pump and fan headers were connected to the NZXT ecosystem connection. The RAM is set to 7,800MHz when DOCP is enabled, and compatibility with the fast memory is guaranteed by updating to the most recent BIOS. The machine started on the first attempt with XMP installed, which is always a nice milestone.

Display Setup: MSI 27 in QD OLED 4K 240Hz

The MSI 27-inch QD OLED 4K 240Hz display is the ideal match for the construction. Its small size makes it easy to place on a desk, and the DisplayPort connection identified the GPU output right away, setting it to 4K 240Hz by default. This high-refresh panel is perfect for demonstrating the frame-generation capabilities of the RTX 5090.

Benchmarking and DLSS Frame Generation

Testing games such as Hitman, Alan Wake II, Cyberpunk 2077, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle highlighted the benefits of DLSS Frame Generation. In Hitman at Absolute Max settings with DLSS Quality, the RTX 5090 produced around 103fps. 

Enabling DLSS Frame Generation in the NVIDIA Control Panel boosted throughput to approximately 150fps at 3× mode on the 240Hz display, while latency stayed under 55ms for a smooth single-player experience.

In Alan Wake II, running 4K Ultra settings without ray tracing, DLSS Balanced delivered about 120fps, which increased marginally when switching to DLSS Performance. Activating DLSS Frame Generation reached 205fps, though minor artifacts appeared around dense foliage. 

Cyberpunk 2077, with full path tracing and DLSS Performance, maintained roughly 89fps and 28ms latency. Toggling Frame Generation to 3× mode increased performance to 153fps, accompanied by only a slight latency increase.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle at Supreme settings and full path tracing ran near 95fps. Enabling Frame Generation pushed the game to 145fps in 3× mode, interspersed with occasional visual anomalies in cutscenes. Across all tests, the RTX 5090 demonstrated its ability to saturate a 240Hz panel when paired with DLSS Frame Generation.

Thermals and Acoustics

Under gaming loads, the GPU core temperature stabilized around 53 °C, and system noise remained near silent. However, the CPU temperature climbed to 96 °C during shader pre-caching, significantly ramping fan speeds. A more robust air cooler or custom loop could mitigate these spikes for sustained heavy workloads.

Building the greatest gaming PC requires careful consideration of performance, usability, and aesthetics. Even in an overkill configuration with two radiators and expensive components, trade-offs in cable length, case clearance, and thermal limits still exist.
