The Epic Games Store has been gaining traction as a major competitor to PC digital storefronts such as Steam, GOG, and Origin. Now, Epic Games has further plans to bring their platform to mobile devices.
During GameSpot’s Play For All event, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed that the company is already designing an Android version of the Epic Games Store. Sweeney is also hopeful that an iOS version will begin development in the near future. The Epic Game Store for Android may have been planned for some time. Back in 2019, the Android version of Fortnite was renamed and changed to the Epic Games app.
With the Epic Game Store on more devices, there may be in an increased use of cross-play allowing mobile, console and PC gamers to compete and cooperate with each other. Still, this feature is up to game developers to implement and manufactures like Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo to allow on their consoles.
