Last year, Hitman developer Io Interactive went independent and publisher Square Enix was looking to sell off the developer to focus resources on key franchises. In the process, Io Interactive secured the rights to Hitman allowing the series to continue with Io Interactive. In a press release, Io Interactive confirmed that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the publishers behind Mortal Kombat, Injustice, and the Batman Arkham series would take on the role of publisher for the Hitman series.
