Activision talks about True Crime being canceled
News by Marco Cecilio on Jun 28, 2011
Eric Hirshberg, Activision's chief executive spoke about the reasons for True Crime: Hong Kong not going to be released. Apparently, the main reason for the cut was the Company's belief that the title would never become one of the "biggest" game of its genre. In an interview with Joystiq, Eric Hirshberg said that the bloated budget and the delay in production also contributed to the cancellation of the game. The title was "doubled" in size and investment would only pay off if the bill were to become an undisputed success.

The CEO of Activision also explained that, when production was approved, the market still showed some space for new franchises in the genre. However, during development, these spaces were closing and in the end only an "epic" game would survive in a highly competitive genre. True Crime: Hong Kong was officially announced in 2009, during the Spike Video Game Awards and was canceled earlier this year.
