Assassin's Creed Taking a Break
News by David on Jul 11, 2010
With the success of the 2007 action adventure hit, Assassin’s Creed, Ubisoft immediately jumped on developing the sequel. Assassin’s Creed II was a bona fide success, even more so than its predecessor in terms of overall reception and sales. With the recent announcement of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (due this fall), Ubisoft looks to have a strong outing for 2011. But the publisher has recently stated they will be taking a break for next year.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Ubisoft Montreal producer Jean-Francis Boivin said that they’re going to “let [Assassin’s Creed] breathe and really focus on bringing something new and exciting for the next time around.” Boivin has also confirmed Brotherhood will close out the final chapter in ACII protagonist Ezio’s life.
Boivin also stressed on the idea of releasing games in a particular time span. Releasing them too quickly or too long can affect the market, as well as the fans interest in the series over time.
“You can't plough a field every year. Once every three years – or once every something – you have to let it breathe. You have to let the minerals back in. I think it's the same thing with any license,” Boivin added.
Regardless of that, Boivin assured the setting for the franchise’s next installment has already been solidified. One year isn’t all that bad; at least Ubisoft has assured that the Assassin’s Creed franchise will keep on going.
