Blizzard Cash-In Lawsuit
News by Daav Daavpuke on Aug 16, 2010
Want to know Blizzard’s secret to making billions? Simple: Find a user that isn’t all that clean and then sue them for unrealistic amounts of cash. This way you can feed the machine already making millions anyway. That is the story of Alyson Reeves aka Scapegaming, that was ordered to pay out Blizzard Entertainment in the amount of $88.594.539. Yes, that’s 88 million dollars!

It's gold-colored for a reason.
Now, we all like to be a little naughty sometimes and rules are there to be broken. But when you’re violating Terms Of Use, make sure you don’t go overboard. Scapegaming operated unauthorized World Of Warcraft servers, which isn’t all that unusual. But setting up a micropayment plan to siphon in over $3 million from its users, might be a little too much.

Therefore, Judge Margaret M. Morrow passed a verdict to reimburse Blizzard of those funds, adding $85 million in statutory losses. As a social worker, I see no viable way to demand such a crippling figure from 1 independent person, but such is the law.
If this doesn’t force Alyson Reeves to declare bankruptcy and live out her remaining days in poverty, she will learn one lesson: Do not ever mess with the giant cash-machine from Blizzard. It’s their huge pile of cash and you may not swim in it!
Now tell me: Who else had a mental picture of Ducktales just now?
