Chrono Odyssey Major Delay Made Room for ArcheAge Chronicles Release
One giant slips, another rises: 2025 earnings reveal shake-up in Kakao's MMO roadmap.

Unfortunately for MMO fans everywhere, Kakao Games just messed up their plans: Chrono Odyssey, which was once hailed as a possible next-gen MMO, has been officially pushed back to Q4 2026. That's a full year later than when it was supposed to come out in Q4 2025. ArcheAge Chronicles will now come out before Chrono Odyssey for the first time ever.
The new information comes straight from Kakao Games' Q2 2025 earnings report, which dropped a surprise in the form of changed release dates. The report talks about a lot of things, from PC and mobile sales to planned global launches. But the most important thing is that two of Kakao's most anticipated MMOs have been moved up in the rankings.

This change not only makes people look twice, but it could also mean that Kakao isn't sure which game will be the best way to break into the global MMO scene. No one is really shocked by this, let's be honest. This was clear to anyone who played the Chrono Odyssey closed beta or even just skimmed the comments and developer logs.
The game wasn't ready, even though 2 million people signed up for the beta and over 1 million people put it on their Steam order. A lot of people thought there would be a slowdown. We didn't expect to push for a whole year.
Some people had a small amount of hope—maybe a sneak peek in Q2 2026, or at the very least March—but Kakao seems to have decided that more work needs to be done. It's clear that the studio isn't skimping on quality, and if they want to fight in the global MMO market, it's also a smart move.
The domino effect this delay sets off is what makes the game even more interesting. It is now clear that ArcheAge Chronicles will come out before Chrono Odyssey. This is shockingly true since we still know so little about the game. That has never taken place. Chrono, the flashy, dramatic next-gen MMO that stole all the show until now, was always the clear favorite.
This sudden flip means a few things. To begin, Kakao may be taking a safe route. From the inside, they might not be sure which game will actually win first. It also gives us a hint that ArcheAge Chronicles might be closer to a public test than we thought. In fact, the results call makes it sound like a closed beta test might happen before the end of 2025, if not earlier.
There is, however, a catch: once ArcheAge Chronicles goes into testing, feedback could also cause it to be delayed. There is chess going on here with Kakao, but both games are just pawns in a live service setting driven by feedback. There was nothing terrible, but there was a lot of "not quite there yet".

Kakao says they are making a lot of changes on the inside based on feedback from the closed test. There is a lot of competition, and people have high hopes. They've also said that deadlines could change again if more beta testing is needed.
They haven't ruled out moving it past Q4 2026 if they have to, but they think Q1 or Q2 2027 is the latest it could slip to without causing major problems. Also, let's be honest: fans will start to get bored if this goes on until late 2027. It looks like Kakao knows this, too.
Still, there is hope. They're happy with the comments they've gotten so far because it wasn't all bad. They are putting a lot of money and time into the game, which shows that they see it as a big way to get into the Western MMO market. Their global approach is being changed because of past marketing mistakes they learned from. There seems to be a lot going on behind the scenes, based on the dev blogs. It's just a long way to go.
The Western MMO scene is pretty much empty right now, which is why Kakao is making a change. Aside from a few Korean MMO games, no other Western MMOs are coming out this year. What is Guild Wars 3? Nothing. Your Riot MMO? Keep quiet. Classic+? Will Lord of the Rings Online come back? There are a lot of rumors going around right now.
In the meantime, Korea is kind of making up for it. Kakao talked about Aion 2, which is set to come out in Korea in November 2025 and probably in the West in the middle to late 2026. Soon, we'll have gameplay video, information on how to make a character, and more. But early rumors suggest that Aion 2 might focus even more on pay-to-win mechanics than any other Korean MMO that we know of right now.
It's not easy to find anything. Western MMO fans may have to wait for something that isn't even on the plan if Chrono Odyssey and ArcheAge Chronicles don't deliver. There's more going on than just a wait. It has to do with Kakao's image in the world of gaming. For years now, they've been trying to become a big player, but outside of Korea, nothing has really stuck.

People thought Chrono Odyssey would be the big hit that got everyone's attention. Delays don't always stop progress, but they do make things more difficult. Now, ArcheAge Chronicles, a game that doesn't get much attention, needs to step up early and show it can handle the weight.
If Chrono Odyssey can make it in 2026 (or 2027, let's be honest), it could change everything. For now, though, all eyes are on ArcheAge Chronicles until then.
