Crisis in the Gulf

Probably the most controversial bit of gaming news this week comes in the form of an Xbox Live video game that sees you attempt to plug a gushing oil leak.

‘Crisis in the Gulf’ is a tower defence game where you need to strategically place submarines and bombs in positions that will best counter the oncoming oil spill.

Co-owner of Super Boise Games, Drew Johnson, who helped designed the game, states that this is not a political game, but when it quite obviously links to a current crisis, and the name of the company whom owns the oil in-game is ‘DP’ then controversy will surely follow.

The game features five difficulty levels, from ‘Lawn Mower Oil Leak’, to the more serious and real threat of ‘Gulf Oil Crisis’ and as the level progresses the oil flow becomes stronger and harder to contain.

If you head over to Xbox Live Marketplace now you can pick it up for $1 or 80 Microsoft Points, or if you want to give it a quick try first the demo is available for free.

Meanwhile the current and very real oil spill in the Gulf continues to cause problems and has been cited as the worst US oil spill in history. Starting on April 20, the initial explosion killed 11 people, and since has decimated the wildlife in and around the surrounding areas.
