Exciting news for zombie fans! Techland has just announced that Dying Light: The Beast will hit our screens a full day earlier than planned. Initially set for September 19, the game will now launch on September 18, giving everyone a head start into the latest undead chaos.

To make things even more interesting, Techland has released a handy world map showing the exact launch times across select regions, so players worldwide can plan their first dip into the game. But the early release isn't the only big news. Techland also shared a detailed blog post outlining the massive changes to the zombie roster in Dying Light: The Beast.

The development team wanted to make the zombies feel both terrifying and believable, scrapping the "doll-like" appearance they had in the previous games. Their goal was to create zombies that still looked human but so beaten up that you can't help but stare in both horror and awe. Starting with the Biters, these classic zombies received a complete overhaul. Gone are the mummified, dried-up corpses of past titles.

Instead, Biters now look properly horrid with wet and decaying skin. Techland describes them as "degenerated humans," a horrifying but convincing design. Players will encounter over 110 variants of Biters, ranging from skinny to regular to obese, along with special types that shake up gameplay. One of the throwbacks includes the classic Gas Tank Biter, decked out in the iconic hazard suit.

Then there are the Virals, which have been changed to be even scarier. In the game's story, these are humans who have recently changed into something else, yet still have some of their old traits. These Virals don't look like regular zombies because they have normal skin tones and human features. Techland has dialed up their grotesque details, from exaggerated blood patterns to wild expressions, making them even scarier.

Fans can expect nearly 60 different Viral variants, including the chilling Lab Virals—victims of The Baron's twisted experiments. Special infected also make a terrifying return. The Howler is a restrained psychiatric patient whose eerie appearance is sure to raise tension.

The Goon (Techland might want to reconsider the name for this one) is a massive, Hulk-like brute disguised in a blue-collar worker's body, while the Spitter, a former medical professional, now sprays corrosive acid. Techland clearly put a lot of thought into these backstories, giving each enemy a unique identity.

The Chimeras, however, are the real deal. The Baron created Chimeras by mixing attributes of different infected types and pushing them to their limits. Techland even looked at the structure of muscles in the human body to make sure these creatures felt as lifelike as possible.

The Matriarch is one of the most impressive designs. It looks like a person whose skin has been peeled off. The artist behind this horrifying design admitted their goal was to create something "haunting and unsettling."

Fans will also recognize the terrifying Volatiles from earlier titles, but Techland promises even more intensity this time around. Dying Light: The Beast is shaping up to be one of the darkest and bloodiest entries in the series yet. The game embraces horror in a way that Dying Light fans have always wanted.

Techland's attention to detail in enemy design, combined with the early release, gives fans plenty to be excited about. There's a lot to explore, ranging from the sheer variety of zombies and special infected to the lore behind the Chimeras.

Dying Light: The Beast comes out on September 18, and fans of the series won't want to miss it. Prepare to experience a world where the undead are more alive than ever and humans are on the verge of extinction.
