Gaikai Predicts End Of Console Race At CES
News by Daav Daavpuke on Jan 12, 2012
At the Consumer Electronics Show, or CES for short, Gaikai's chief product officer Nanea Reeves spoke out on a possible end towards the console race for some. The cloud-based gaming service speaker mentioned: “Not all of the current console makers will have one more generation. That will be the big news at E3.” As Wii U development and release is already well underway, this statement only speculates on two parties; namely Sony or Microsoft.

As speculations rise, fingers are currently pointing at Sony, as Microsoft rumors for a next generation consoles spur mostly on its production and release and Sony president Kazuo Hirai was swift to debunk PS4 rumors. The man told Bloomberg that the PS3 is predicted to have a 10 year lifespan, like its older brother and on that aspect; it’s only halfway through the cycle. Though in that same article, the man is skeptic about cloud gaming, stating: “It’s still very difficult to have consumers download 50 gigabytes of data or more.”
Gaikai earlier announced a partnership with LG, whom was also involved in a PS3 hostage situation over patent issues, in order to bring cloud-gaming to smart TVs without the need for a console. Together with cloud gaming giant Onlive, this might see a shift in traditional console use as we know it.
Do you think live stream gaming is the future?
Are you worried that there might not be a next console for your favorite platform to enjoy?
