GameStop And Microsoft Team Up
Microsoft will back up the retail store to increase Game Pass sales.

Microsoft has released a press statement that they have entered a new partnership with brick and mortar retailer GameStop. The deal is mostly on the corporate end, outfitting GameStop with Dynamics 365 cloud-based business software, Microsoft Teams communication, and Surface tablets to over 30,000 employees. In return, GameStop will actively push Xbox Game Pass offers, along with the already planned Xbox All Access. The latter allows customers to lease an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S via monthly payments over the course of two years. A shopper could walk out of a local GameStop with an Xbox console and complimentary Game Pass while only needing to pay as little as $12 each month.

This is a rather smart move for Microsoft, as they permanently closed their own retail stores earlier this year following the COVID-19 pandemic. By utilizing GameStop’s locations they can reach a sizable customer base that still prefers in-person shopping or otherwise doesn’t have access to online retail. The news also directly boosted GameStop’s stock price, which jumped from $9 USD to $13 USD per share overnight.
