After a successful release on the next-gen consoles and PC, Hogwarts Legacy launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, alongside a new patch for the game. Warner Bros. Games has announced the fantasy RPG, set in the Harry Potter universe, has already sold more than 15 million units since its release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in February 2023, making over $1 Billion in global sales.

The patch, which was released on 4th May, brought several bug fixes and an Arachnophobia Mode which aims to help players with a fear of spiders play the game. The setting can be toggled on and off in the accessibility options and changes several visual aspects of the gameplay.

These include:

- Changing all enemy spider appearances

- Reducing and removing spider skitters and screeches

- Removing small spider ground effect spawners

- Making static spider corpses in the world invisible

Despite the changes to spiders in the game, pictures of the creatures are still visible within the field guide, an in-game book which tracks progress and collectables. Similarly, while spider corpses in the world are made invisible, collision is still active to prevent players from getting stuck when toggling the setting.

Turning the setting on causes the arachnids' appearance to resemble the spider boggart from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Replacing the spiders character model with a red, spherical body beside eight roller skates and with no legs. While many arachnophobes have welcomed the implementation of the feature on Twitter, stating that it has removed the scariest part of the game for them, others have shared that they think the changed spiders look scarier than the original ones.

The patch also brought fixes for several bugs impacting gameplay elements like quests, NPCs, combat and puzzles. Performance fixes were also implemented for the PS5, Xbox X|S and PC versions of the game.
