The brand-new Nintendo Switch 2 features a new Joy-Con capability that enables players to use the controller as a mouse, making the console compatible with a wider range of games.
The original Nintendo Switch had many issues when it came to the Joy-Cons, including the fact that if people didn’t fully click in the back button to release the controllers from the console, it could snap the sliders, and they would never be the same again.
The Joy-Cons have also almost always been known to drift, even after barely being that old. However, it seems these days could be behind us as the Nintendo Switch 2 has made some major improvements.
Nintendo announced the Switch 2 January 16th, 2025. In the Nintendo Direct announcement, they showcased the new console and what fans planning to purchase it could expect the hardware to be like. One of the first significant changes is that instead of the Joy-Cons being held on by sliders, they are now secured by magnets.
Nintendo hasn’t come out and said for sure if they fixed the Joy-Con drift issue, but with the new style, it could be. However, the biggest feature for the console is the new mouse function that allows the controllers to almost transform.
How Does The Nintendo Switch 2 Mouse Feature Work?
With the new Nintendo Switch 2, players can connect their Joy-Cons to their game and turn one of the controllers onto its side and use it as if it were a mouse. Players can drag it around on a smooth surface to move the cursor around in the game.
Just like a computer mouse, it tracks movements on the side of the Joy-Con using a sensor. This feature is supposed to allow for more games to be brought to the Switch, as well as make for more different ways to play the console.
