Microsoft Mimic Apple Stores
News by Craig Bryan on Feb 15, 2009
It seems Microsoft is taking a leaf (no pun in intended) out of Apple’s book and plan on opening their own chain of stores that will showcase and sell their products. It was only a matter of time given the huge success their rivals have had over the past few years, with over 200 Apple stores now open worldwide, and sales of Mac’s, iPod’s and iPhone’s increasing daily.
So how does the world’s largest software company plan on achieving success? Well, quite simply by recruiting David Porter, the executive of the world’s largest retailer - Wal-Mart. David describes this as a “tremendous opportunity” for the company to create a “world-class shopping experience” and is already searching for key locations.
Microsoft state their intentions by saying they want to “create a deeper engagement with consumers”, and want to “learn firsthand about what they want and how they buy”. They may have their work cut out if they to compete with the style and the class of the current Apple’s stores though; however, the timing might be perfect, considering that retail sales are now on their way up, as the current financial crisis lightens.
