More on Hideo's Secrets
News by Logan Smithson on Jul 09, 2010
At any given time, no one is able to tell what's on Hideo Kojima's mind other than himself. Actually, we're not so sure if even he knows some of the time, but whatever the case is, he usually prefers to keep his ideas to himself until the release date is very near. And even then, we usually still only know the very basics of the game until we get our own hands on it. We don't have any breaking news or confirmations on a new title he is working on, but Mr. Kojima has given us a few statements to ponder on.
First and foremost, he is still not working on Metal Gear Solid Rising, instead he will be “leaving it up to the youngsters” for the upcoming turn in the Metal Gear series starring Raiden as a cyborg ninja. Don't take his words too literal though, as these aren't exactly rookies. Producer Shigenobu Matsuyama has been under Kojima since 1991, and director Mineshi Kimura has been a part of the team for the release of the original Metal Gear Solid and beyond.
Despite some rumors, Hideo also isn't working directly on Castlevania Lord of Shadows. Kojima said of his team on the project, "We're advising them in a variety of ways, but are of the stance that Dave and MercurySteam have the final say." Meaning producer Dave Cox and MercurySteam Entertainment. No official word was given on the status of the game, but the status is believed to be a late 2010 release for PS3 and Xbox 360.
Yet another game that Hideo Kojima isn't working on himself is the new 3DS Metal Gear game. Instead, staff members from the PSP's Peace Walker will be handling the title. The good news is that we finally have more details on this game. It is in fact a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, but with a few changes. The story will be left the same, but we can expect co-op play (similar to Peace Walker), 3D, and "portable-like elements."
The graphics are said to not only be just as good as on the PS2, but the team was able to enhance the detail and, get this, "The high level models are about the same quality as the stuff we made on the PlayStation 3, although it's tough to see this. If we'd had a bit more time, we could have made something better.” I'm not sure whether they're stretching the truth, but this statement definitely has my mouth watering for the 3DS even more. Unfortunately it isn't going to be a launch title, but development isn't expected to take too long, and it should be out within a year of the 3DS release.
But rest assured, Kojima is in fact working on something. It's just not clear what it is. Oh, it's going to be good though. He said, "The next project is amazing. The plan is pretty much solidified." The engine is said to already be running, and they are currently working on technological preparations. Hideo also stated, "The next thing after Peace Walker is something great. It's a revolution. We'll be doing things that we couldn't do in Peace Walker."
“"I'll be slowly making my game on a console. However, even though I say slowly, it can't take three years. Only Japanese companies are taking time. Overseas, they don't take so much time for development. Assassin's Creed saw an announcement at E3 even though one was just released last year. With this in mind, I believe you can't take more than a little over two yeas for development."
This could mean anything from end of 2011 to 2012. We're expecting to get more information at the Tokyo Game Show this year in September. We really don't know what the game could be. Kojima himself said that it could possibly be Metal Gear Solid 5, or something entirely different. Take that as you want though, since he's basically just throwing out there that it could be any game. It's interesting to note though that an MGS sequel isn't completely ruled out. Zone of Enders, on the other hand, is. Maybe in the future, but this game definitely isn't ZoE 3. We don't even get information on what system(s) this new game will be on, but he did mention he was working on a home console. Earlier rumors said this would be a PS3 exclusive, though it's hard to tell if this is still holding any weight.
Hideo Kojima didn't say much, but it doesn't take many words from him to get us excited. I think I can speak for anyone who has played a Hideo Kojima game when I say we're absolutely pumped to figure out what this game is.
