Nintendo's Infamous Creators Program Shutting Down at the End of December

Back in May 2015, Nintendo started the infamous Nintendo Creators Program that required those who wish to create content using Nintendo IPs to follow specific guidelines and take a portion of the monetization revenue. Starting December 2018 the program will end and on March 20th, 2019 a new system will replace it.

Nintendo will provide new guidelines of what can be monetized and must still be approved by Nintendo. However, commentary-free gameplay is not permitted as YouTube has taken steps to ensure that no-commentary gameplay is no longer allowed for monetization.

YouTube’s Global Head of Gaming, and Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Ryan Wyatt took to Twitter to celebrate and share the news with his followers.

“The Nintendo Creators Program is coming to a close at the end of December. You may monetize your Nintendo videos on YouTube moving forward. Be sure to follow @Nintendo’s guidelines below. What an amazing day for all Creators!!”

We'll have to see how the new program works before an opinion can be formed.
