Pokémon Pokopia Reveals Habitat System, 4-Player Multiplayer, and 40-Hour Campaign Ahead of Switch 2 Launch

The new Switch 2 game mixes cozy imagination with old-school gameplay in surprising ways, going from Pallet Town that's broken down to a real-life Pokémon town.

What if Pokémon didn't have a bright lab and a grateful teacher to begin with? What if there was nothing there at first? Imagine a town that had been forgotten, and weeds had taken over it. Pokémon Pokopia doesn't begin with a party; instead, it starts with a fight. In the middle of it all is a strange hero: a Ditto that can wake up from a long, strange sleep and change into a person.

The game begins in a cave where a strange form of Tangrowth is working as a teacher. This version has a strange vibe that makes you think of things that happened a long time ago, and uses tools made by people. When things were going well, Pokémon and people got along great. But then something bad happened, and everything changed. No one knows what caused the main secret of the game to remain a mystery.

People who play know right away what they need to do when they enter the destroyed world: start over in the town and bring life back to the area. It's not like other Pokémon games where the main focus is on fights and badges. It's more about community, building, and being creative, but it still has the familiar Pokémon gameplay features.

The part about the world is one of the best.

People don't have to catch Pokémon in tall grass; they can draw them by making settings that they like. Bulbasaur might show up if you put four patches of tall grass next to each other. Bugs like Scyther might come to a tree that has flowers and grass around it. Hitmonchan and other people who like to fight might move near gym equipment like punching bags and chairs.

Because of this mechanic, every choice that isn't required turns into a plan. Not only do the pieces of furniture, scenery, and landscape you pick look nice, but they can also change which Pokémon come to visit. Weather and time of day can also change how people look with a real-time clock. This makes an environment that is very complicated, and creativity has a direct effect on finding.

Carefully added to the game are parts of the original Pokémon games. People who play as Ditto must help Pokémon learn moves. After you bring a dehydrated Squirtle back to life, you can use the Water Gun. Leafage lets people grow plants when they help Bulbasaur. Moves cost Power Points, just like in the main games. You can eat food or visit Pokémon Centers to get them back. It's a way to build endurance that looks old-fashioned.

The people who live in Pokémon are more than just pretty faces.

There is a level of comfort for everyone that shows how happy and content they are. They are happier when you give them their best furniture, find them good homes, and do what they want. It might act out badly if you take down a sign in Arcanine's yard. The two are very different from each other, even though they live in the same house. The method lets you make friends with animals and simulate real-life events at the same time.

There are many ways that the building can be used. It's easy to use because players can either build things block by block in a way that feels like sandbox games, or they can use building kits that have already been planned out. Buildings need walls and furniture to be full homes. The rooms are bigger than I thought they would be, which makes it easier to decorate with lots of little things.

People who like to craft use workbenches.

You can sort recipes, “like” them, and make them all at the same time. You can quickly connect storage boxes to nearby tables, which helps you keep track of your things. Things that are broken can be used again, which makes the game loop last longer. People are interested in a furniture store that changes every day. It's more fun to go every day because some things are only there on certain days of the week.

People can go to more places and ask for more difficult things as the town grows. Playing with other people is also very important. Four people can join at once in real life, and friends can build together online with shared islands, even when the host isn't online. People say that anything made in a host town stays there forever. This is why it's important to work together.

People can add to, change, or even destroy buildings, but they can't bring wild Pokémon into someone else's world. It's fun to try new things because falls don't hurt you. The players can build as high as they want and jump without getting hurt. They change into Ditto when they land. The tone of the game stays fun, even though it has some important parts.

Already, more than 80 Pokémon have been shown.

Some people think that the full list could have as many as 300 Pokémon. Tyranitar, Dragonite, Lapras, Lucario, and Greninja, some of the fans' best Pokémon, are likely to show up. There are also starting Pokémon from Kanto and Pokémon that evolved from Eevee. The story may also have something to do with the end of the world, as shown by the Snorlax that is covered in moss and the Pikachu that looks like a ghost.

You can also use the Pokédex as a camera to record moments with your Pokémon and the towns you've built. People who like to learn everything will find a lot to learn, such as the Habitat Deck and comfort tracking. Many people say that the main mission lasts between 20 and 40 hours. There is also extra content after the game ends that makes the experience even longer.

They worked together on Pokémon Pokopia, which comes out on March 5, only for the Nintendo Switch 2. The Pokémon Company and Koei Tecmo's Omega Force, which makes big action games, worked on it. The business says this is one of their biggest projects so far.

The main idea behind it is to bring back things like land, company, and wonder. A cozy world is put together with well-known Pokémon systems in both new and old ways. Broken Pallet Town may look like a ghost of what it used to be, but with care and friends, it can become a busy place to live again. People still want to know what happened to this world and what secrets will be revealed when every Pokémon gets home. Things are slowly getting better in this world.
